Ravens Struggle Against Saint Anselm, Fall 10-2

RINDGE, N.H. – The Franklin Pierce University Ravens men's lacrosse team faced a tough challenge against the undefeated No. 8 Saint Anselm Hawks, ultimately falling 10-2 in Northeast-10 action on Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Saint Anselm set the tone early in the first quarter, scoring three unanswered goals. Charlie Dean found the back of the net unassisted to open the scoring at 11:23. Chris Claflin followed with a goal assisted by Mark Boyle, and Matt Lemay extended the lead to 3-0 before the quarter ended.
  • The second quarter saw continued dominance from the Hawks as they added two more goals. Lemay struck again off a pass from Joe Lombardi at 8:06, followed by Maverick Lyon's goal assisted by Lemay at 6:57 to give Saint Anselm a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime.
  • Franklin Pierce finally broke through in the third quarter. Junior attackman Jackson Philion (Charlton, Mass.) fired an unassisted goal at 1:37, cutting the deficit to 5-1. However, that momentum was short-lived as Saint Anselm stormed back in the fourth.
  • The Hawks netted five more goals in the final frame. Colin Mulvey tallied an unassisted goal at 10:50, and Lombardi added another less than a minute later off a feed from Lemay. Lemay secured his hat trick at 9:03, followed by another Mulvey goal at 7:39. Franklin Pierce added their second and final goal of the game when Chris Hunt (assisted by Michael Lawler) struck at 5:07. Mulvey capped off his dominant performance with his third goal of the afternoon at 4:00, sealing the 10-2 victory for Saint Anselm.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Hawks outshot the Ravens 43-24.
  • The Ravens won 3 face-offs, compared to 13 for the Hawks.
  • Turnovers were nearly even, with Franklin Pierce committing 17 and Saint Anselm 15.

  • Senior goalkeeper Mike Masterpolo (Kingston, Mass.) made 16 saves in the loss.
