No. 2 Le Moyne Downs Men's Lacrosse on Senior Day, 15-4

RINDGE, N.H. (April 23, 2022) --- The Franklin Pierce Ravens started today's game honoring one of their former teammates, Luke Smith, and it was an emotional day for a lot of the players as he would have been a senior this season, and the team was celebrating the senior day. The team had a challenging task in front of them as the Ravens had to play the defending Division II national champion Le Moyne Dolphins. Heading into this game, the Dolphins are nationally-ranked second in the country for Division II. Le Moyne took care of business at Sodexo Field and won 15-4. Grad student attacker Devin Andrews led the way for the Dolphins with five goals. 

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-6 (3-6 NE10), and Le Moyne advances to 13-1 on the season and remains perfect in the NE-10 conference at 9-0. 

In the first quarter, the Dolphins controlled the tempo right from the start and scored six goals. Andrews scored an unassisted goal only 83 seconds into the game to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. A little over a minute later, sophomore midfielder Max Cramer made it 2-0 Le Moyne on an assist by Andrews. Senior midfielder Sam Lambert scored an unassisted goal two minutes later to make it 3-0 Dolphins. The Dolphins continued to pour it on as senior Colin Sypek made it 4-0 only 11 minutes into the game. Andrews picked up the next two goals to pick up a hat trick in the first quarter. Andrews's goals were both assisted by senior Kevin Sheehan. 

In the second quarter, Le Moyne continued to assert their dominance in this game by adding five goals. Andrews started scoring in this quarter for the Dolphins. With 10:07 left in the first half, grad student attacker Carter Collins scored to make it 8-0 Le Moyne. On the man-up for Le Moyne, the grad student midfielder Evan Kelly scored to extend the lead to 9-0. The first half was all Le Moyne, and they showed no signs of slowing down when senior attacker John Howes made it 10-0 Le Moyne. The Ravens finally scored their first goal of the game thanks to Caleb Ikkela (Onset, Mass.), who got the Ravens on the board. With time expiring in the first half, Andrews scored his fifth goal in the game to give the Dolphins an 11-1 lead going into halftime. 

The Dolphins had a comfortable lead going into the second half, and they were hoping to hang on for the rest of the game. Sophomore attacker Preston Taylor started the second-half scoring for the Dolphins to make it 12-1. Under a minute later, sophomore midfielder Kyle Caves scored his first goal of the game and made it 13-1 Le Moyne. Only 11 seconds later, Ikkela picked up his second goal of the game for the Ravens, assisted by junior attacker Owen McCormack (Hampstead, N.H.). With 4:43 left in the third quarter, senior midfielder John Bergan made it 14-2 Le Moyne. 

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Ravens tried to add some more goals on the board. Ikkela scored with 10:07 left in the game and picked the hat trick to make it 14-3. Less than a minute later, grad student midfielder Josh Dorr (Brunswick, Maine) scored his first goal of the game, assisted by Ikkela, and made it 14-4. With 7:49 left in the game, sophomore midfielder Ryder Simser scored the game's final goal for the Dolphins. 

Nine different Dolphin players scored in the win, and Ikkela scored three out of the four goals for the Ravens in defeat. Ikkela finished the day with four points, and Andrews for Le Moyne finished the day with six points. Le Moyne outshot Franklin Pierce 49-30 in this game. 

Franklin Pierce goaltender freshman Mike Masterpolo (Kingston, Mass.) made 13 saves on 28 shots, and grad student goaltender Frank Delia picked up his thirteenth win of the season, and he made two saves on three saves. 

Franklin Pierce will hit the road for their season finale against The College of Saint Rose, with the opening faceoff at 4 PM.
