Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up at Bentley, 16-4

WALTHAM, M.A. (March 26, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team was on a roll this season after beating Assumption in overtime 10-9 last Saturday on their home turf. They hoped to carry that momentum into today's game against a red-hot Falcons team. This game was one of Franklin Pierce's most significant tests of the season. Senior midfielders Ben Baldasaro and Clay Moseman had five points for the Falcons on the afternoon. Baldasaro and Moseman both had hat tricks in this game as well. Bentley scored eleven different players in this game as the Falcons cruised past the Ravens 16-4.   

Franklin Pierce gets their first loss of the season and falls to 4-1 (1-1 NE10), while Bentley University improves to 4-1 (3-0 NE10) on the season. The Falcons controlled this game from start to finish, and they never looked back.   

In the first quarter, Bentley scored the game's first four goals in under five minutes. With 10:10 left in the first quarter, junior attacker Owen McCormack (Hampstead, New Hampshire got the Ravens on the board with an unassisted goal. Junior attacker Luke Jaber had two goals in the first quarter for Bentley. Bentley led 5-1 after the first quarter.  

In the second quarter, four different Bentley players scored the first four goals of the quarter to lead 9-1 in the game. The Falcons scored all four of those goals in under seven minutes. With less than a minute left in the first half, junior attacker Caleb Ikkela (Onset, Massachusetts) scored the game's second goal for Franklin Pierce. Bentley added another goal just seconds later and they led 10-2 at halftime.   

In the second half, The Ravens tried everything they could to turn things around. In the third quarter, Moseman got the scoring started to give the Falcons a 11-2 lead. Senior attacker Stephen Ell (Peabody, Massachusetts) got the game's third goal on the man-up for the Ravens. Ell now has 18 goals for Franklin Pierce on the season. The Falcons added two more goals to take a 13-3 lead with less than two minutes left in the third quarter. On one of the goals, Baldasaro and Moseman connected on a goal once again.   

Baldassaro and Moseman picked up their hat tricks to give Bentley a 15-3 lead in the fourth quarter. With 1:13 left in the game, freshman attacker Quinn Meissner scored the final goal of the day for the Falcons. With 22 seconds left in regulation, freshman midfielder Ryan Cottone for the Ravens scored his second goal on his rookie season. Franklin Pierce lost 16-4, and they will have to go back to the drawing board as it was a tough day for them all around.   

In defeat, senior goaltender Nathan Taylor (Danville, New Hampshire) made 18 saves on 33 shots for the Ravens. Senior goaltender Keaton Roarick made 11 saves on 14 shots, and he picked up his fourth win of the season. Bentley outshot Franklin Pierce 49-27. The Falcons had the Ravens numbered in this game.   

The Ravens will head home for Tuesday afternoon's matchup against American International College at 3 p.m.
