Josh Dorr

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 1, 2021) -- Senior Josh Dorr (Brunswick, Maine) netted his fifth hat trick of the season on Saturday afternoon, but it would not be enough for the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team, which ran into a national powerhouse in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The seventh-seeded Ravens suffered a 15-5 loss on the road to second-seeded and No. 1 nationally ranked Le Moyne on the road at Ted Grant Field. Graduate student Matt Hutchings piled up five points (3-2-5) to lead the way for the Dolphins.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce sees its season conclude at 5-7. Le Moyne improves to 10-0 and advances to host third-seeded Adelphi in an NE10 semifinal on Wednesday, May 5.

Le Moyne took control early, as the Dolphins scored the first nine goals of the game over the opening quarter-and-a-half. Hutchings netted two of his three in the first quarter, while junior Kevin Sheehan notched a hat trick in the second quarter. Dorr stopped the bleeding with 4:56 to go into the half, to make it a 9-1 game heading into the intermission.

Le Moyne scored first five goals of the third quarter as well, including a pair from graduate student Jake Nelson, to push the lead as high as 14-1. Franklin Pierce got two from sophomore Caleb Ikkela (Onset, Mass.) and one from Dorr to post a 3-1 advantage in the fourth quarter, as Le Moyne went on to the 15-5 victory.

Dorr (3-0-3) and Ikkela (2-0-2) were the only multiple-point scorers on the day for the Ravens. Senior Tom Pitts (Raymond, N.H.) caused a pair of turnovers.

For Le Moyne, Hutchings (3-2-5), Nelson (3-1-4) and junior Zach Pierce (2-2-4) led the way, while Sheehan added a hat trick as well. Junior Sam Kury scooped up a game-best 12 ground balls, while senior Nate Arnold caused a trio of turnovers.

Freshman goalkeeper James Heitmiller (Nashua, N.H.) piled up 12 saves against 27 shots and suffered the loss (5-7) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. Senior Frank Delia (4-0) played the first three quarters and change for Le Moyne, made six saves against nine shots and picked up the win.
