Men’s Lacrosse Drops Lightning-Shortened Affair to Bentley, 12-6

Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse

RINDGE, N.H. (April 21, 2021) -- Just minutes into the third quarter on Wednesday afternoon, the skies opened up above Sodexo Field. With the torrential rain came plenty of lightning, which forced an early end to the Northeast-10 Conference contest between the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team and Bentley. After a delay, the game was ultimately called with 13:46 to play in the fourth quarter, and Bentley picked up a 12-6 win. Graduate student Joey Tesoriero scored four times in the victory for Bentley, while senior Kristopher Campbell had a five-point day on a goal and four assists.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-6 (3-6 NE10), while Bentley improves to 5-3 (5-3 NE10).

Bentley took control of the game early, as the Falcons scored the only four goals of the first quarter. Tesoriero scored a pair of man-up goals, sandwiched between even-strength markers from junior Ben Baldasaro and Campbell. Campbell factored in on all four first-quarter goals, as he assisted on each of the other three tallies.

The Falcons scored three of the first four goals in the second quarter as well, to jump out to a 6-1 lead after Campbell set up freshman Nicholas Thorn-Guillaro with 10:18 to play in the opening half. Franklin Pierce was able to put a 4-1 run together over the final six minutes of the stanza, including two goals and an assist from senior Josh Dorr (Brunswick, Maine), to cut the gap to two, at 7-5, heading into the intermission.

After senior Dominick Cioffi and sophomore Caleb Ikkela (Onset, Mass.) traded goals in the opening five minutes of the third quarter, Bentley went on a surge again. Four straight goals from the Falcons, including Tesoriero's final two of the day, ballooned the lead out to 12-6 as the rain started to fall near the end of the period. From there, it was a race to complete the third quarter and thus create an official game, before things where halted just 1:14 into the fourth.

Dorr finished with four points on three goals and an assist, and was the only Raven to record multiple points on the day. Sophomore Eric Bua Jr. (Revere, Mass.) and junior Connor Chapdelaine (Goffstown, N.H.) led the team with three ground balls apiece, while Chapdelaine caused a pair of turnovers.

Behind Tesoriero and Campbell, Baldasaro (2-0-2) and junior Ryan Birch (2-1-3) each added a pair of goals for Bentley. Sophomore Jake Tyska helped the Falcons control the game from the faceoff dot, as he went 13-for-15 on draws and led all players with 10 ground balls. Senior Connor Baughan added five ground balls.

Freshman goalkeeper James Heitmiller (Nashua, N.H.) made eight saves against 20 shots and suffered the loss (3-6) in the Franklin Pierce crease. Junior netminder Keaton Roarick stopped five of the 11 shots on his net to pick up the win (5-3) for Bentley.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 24, when they wrap up the regular season at home against Saint Michael's at noon.
