Kelley earns second major academic honor in two weeks

RINDGE, N.H. (May 14, 2014) – Franklin Pierce University men’s lacrosse standout Cody Kelley (Manchester, N.H.) on Wednesday was named to the 2014 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Senior Scholar Academic All-Region Team. He was one of four Division II senior student-athletes to be named to NEILA’s academic list.

In order to be selected for the team, student-athletes must be in their final year of eligibility, have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and be a significant enough contributor on the field. Kelley, who will graduate from Franklin Pierce this Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance, has produced a 3.34 cumulative grade point average in his area of study.

It marks the second major academic award for Kelley over the last two weeks, as back on May 4 he was named Franklin Pierce’s Richard Burns Senior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his efforts on the field and in the classroom.

Kelley finished his Franklin Pierce career as a two-time captain, and a cornerstone for a defensive unit that proved to be one of the steadiest in the Northeast-10 Conference over the last three years. As a sophomore in 2012, he helped guide the Ravens to a 7-6 record and the first winning season in program history. As a senior in 2014, Kelley helped anchor a back end that ranked first in the NE-10 in team save percentage and second in fewest goals allowed.
