Men's Lacrosse Hangs Tough Early But Falls 13-3 to #5 Adelphi

Edward Noonan scores team-best 19th goal of the season on Saturday
RINDGE, N.H. (April 30, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce
University men's lacrosse team hung tough early in the first half
with No. 5-nationally ranked Adelphi on Saturday, but the Ravens
could not keep pace with the Panthers in dropping a 13-3 decision
at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens concluded their season with a
3-10 overall record and a 1-9 mark in the Northeast-10, while
Adelphi improved to 13-2 and 9-1 in league play.
Nate Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.), Edward
Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) and Baxter Sukdolak
(Lockport, N.Y.) each tallied a goal for the Ravens, while
Jimmy McInnis (Amherst, N.H.) picked up an assist
to register in the points column on the afternoon.
Freshman goalie Tim Izzo (Trumbull, Conn.) got the
start in net for the Ravens and suffered the loss to fall to 3-10,
despite making seven saves. Senior netminder Shea Campbell
(Centerport, N.Y.) played the final 30 minutes and made
six saves in his final collegiate game.
Bryan Hall and Timothy Aiello each tossed in a game-high three
goals to lead Adelphi's offensive attack. Eric Janssen made six
saves in net over 45 minutes of action to earn the win for the
Panthers.
Adelphi opened the game by scoring four-straight goals, including
two late in the first quarter and two early in the second quarter.
Hall dumped in a pair during that run to give Adelphi the early 4-0
lead.
The Ravens stemmed the tide at the 8:52 mark when Wood took a pass
from McInnis and slipped a shot past Janssen to cut into the
deficit at 4-1. However, Adelphi was able to get a goal from Joe
Vitale late in the half to make it 5-1 Panthers at halftime.
The Panthers came out firing early in the third quarter and quickly
added to their lead by scoring twice in the first 90 seconds to
build a 7-1 advantage. Noonan, though, answered for the Ravens at
the 13:08 mark when he scooped up a groundball following a faceoff
win, raced down the field between several Adelphi defenders and got
off a shot that went past the stick handle of Janssen to make it
7-2. For Noonan, a freshman midfielder, it was his team-leading
19th of the season.
Adelphi would score five-consecutive goals after that to cruise in
for the win. Sukdolak scored for Franklin Pierce with 11:45 left in
the game, as the marker was the first of his collegiate career.
