RINDGE, N.H. (March 28, 2009) –
Sophomore attacker Jack Scanlan
(Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) scored four goals and
added an assist to total five points on Saturday night to lead the
Franklin Pierce University men’s lacrosse team to a 14-12
victory over American International in Northeast-10 Conference play
at Sodexo Field. Sophomore attacker Aaron McNab (West Springfield,
Mass./West Springfield) of American International led all players
with five goals and an assist for six points on the evening.
The Ravens scored seven of the game’s first eight goals to
take a seemingly commanding 7-1 lead with five minutes to play in
the first half. However, over the next 10-plus minutes, American
International would score five of the next six goals to pull to
within 8-6 with just under 10 minutes to play in the third quarter.
From there, the teams would train goals back and forth for the
remainder of the game en route to the two-goal Franklin Pierce
victory. An unassisted tally by senior attacker Ryan Boller (New Canaan, Conn./New
Canaan) with 10:06 to play would prove to be the
game-winner.
After Scanlan’s five points, only three other Ravens tallied
multiple points. Junior attacker Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne)
scored three goals, senior midfielder Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury,
Mass./Shrewsbury) tallied three points on two goals and an
assist and sophomore midfielder Jonathan Martinez (Waterbury Center, Vt./Rice
Memorial) added a goal and an assist for two points. Six
other Ravens contributed a single point each on the evening.
Behind McNab and his six points, sophomore attacker Travis Ortensi
(South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) led American International with
five goals. Also chipping in multiple points for the Yellow Jackets
were freshman attacker Nicholas Brett (Loudon, N.H./Merrimack
Valley), who dished out three assists, and sophomore midfielder Dan
MacIssac (Port Perry, Ontario), who contributed a goal and an
assist for two points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Shea Campbell
(Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) made seven saves in net for
Franklin Pierce to post the victory. Sophomore Mark Taylor (North
Andover, Mass./North Andover) made 16 stops between the pipes for
American International in a losing effort.
The Ravens (1-5, 1-2 Northeast-10) return to the field on Tuesday,
March 31, when they travel to Pace for a Northeast-10 Conference
contest. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Pace Field in
Pleasantville, N.Y. American International (0-4, 0-1 Northeast-10)
returns to action on March 31 at Bentley.
