Men's Ice Hockey: Ravens Dominate Second Period; Put Away Post, 5-2.

GARDNER, M.A (2/9/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team snapped their four-game losing streak tonight at Gardner Veterans Arena as they beat Post University 5-2 in game one of the weekend series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• In the first period, Franklin Pierce outshot Post 15-10. The Ravens had multiple scoring chances early but couldn't capitalize. Both teams went 0 for 2 on the power play in the opening period. 
• In the second period, the Ravens scored three goals. Senior forward Cody Rumsey (York, PA) scored the game's first goal five and a half minutes into the period. Nearly seven minutes later, the Eagles tied the game on the power play on a goal by junior forward Patrick Murphy. Just 29 seconds later, on the power play, sophomore transfer forward Austin Pick (Troutdale, OR) scored his third goal in six games to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead. 
• With under two minutes remaining in the second period, sophomore forward Devin Rohrich (Pittsburgh, PA) scored his first goal in seven games to give Franklin Pierce a two-goal cushion heading into the second intermission. 
• Freshman forward John Sterling (Centreville, VA) scored his first career goal 92 seconds into the final period to give Franklin Pierce a 4-1 lead. A few minutes later, Post cut the Franklin Pierce in half on a goal by graduate forward Jack Engdahl. Freshman forward Nick Fish (Ashland, MA) scored his second goal of the season to give Franklin a 5-2 lead over Post. The Ravens snapped their four-game losing streak and picked up their seventh win at Gardner Veterans Arena. 

 BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
• Freshman goaltender Maxymilian Banoun (Alpine, NJ) picked up this third win of the season and made 31 saves on 33 shots. 
• Franklin Pierce outshot Post 43-33. 
• Franklin Pierce was 1 for 6 on the power play, and Post was 1 for 7 on the power play.
• Franklin Pierce won 31 faceoffs.
