Men's Ice Hockey: Stellar start sends Ravens to series split, 5-0.

GARDNER, M.A (11/18/2023) -- The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team split the weekend series with Southern New Hampshire with a 5-0 win this evening.

 

Score: Frankin Pierce 5, Southern New Hampshire 0

Records: Franklin Pierce (4-4-0, 3-3-0 NE-10), Southern New Hampshire (2-4-0, 1-3-0 NE-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Ravens controlled the tempo from the opening puck drop. Sophomore forward Matt Horan (Methuen, MA) scored the game's first goal. He worked his way into the slot and fired the puck past freshman goaltender Collin Berke for his fifth goal of the season.

• Less than five minutes into the second period, freshman forward Nick Tessier (Burnsville, MN) scored his second goal of the season to make it 2-0 Franklin Pierce.

• Senior forward Cody Rumsey (York, PA) scored his second goal of the season on a one-timer in the slot to give Franklin Pierce a 3-0 lead.

• In the third period, the Ravens scored two goals. With 3:45 to go in the game, senior forward Dimitris Christou (Skaneateles, NY) scored his second goal of the season on an empty netter. Fifty-five seconds later, senior forward Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, MA) scored his second goal of the season to give the Ravens the 5-0 win over their intra-state rival.

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Sophomore goaltender Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, NJ) picked up his first career shutout as he stopped all 39 shots faced tonight.

• Franklin Pierce was 0 for 3 on the power play.

• Franklin Pierce outshot SHNU 41-39.

• The Ravens remain at home as they take on Framingham State on Tuesday, November 21, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
