Jacobs' Third Period Pair Leads Men's Hockey to 4-3 Win over Post University

SHELTON, Conn. (2/11/23) – The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team rallied behind a pair of third period goals by senior defender Stephen Jacobs () to claim a 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Post University on the road Friday night.

The win snaps a six-game winless streak for the Ravens, and improves their overall record to 10-17-1 (7-9-1 NE10). The Eagles drop to 6-18-1 (4-12-1 NE10) with the loss.

Trailing 1-0, graduate forward Anthony Nikolopoulos (Burlington, Mass.) was able to get the special teams going for Pierce late in the first period, scoring on the power play with the help of senior Stephen Jacobs and junior forward Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, Mass.). However, Post was not looking to go into the second tied up, and responded 00:18 later to reclaim the lead 2-1 on a Nick Brewer goal.

The second period was a back-and-forth type of period, with Post outshooting Pierce 15-11. However, despite holding the shots edge, Pierce would score the second period's only goal on defenseman Vito Carlo's (Las Vegas, Nevada) fifth of the season, with the assist going to freshman defender Declan House (Roselle Park, N.J.). Entering the third period, it was anyone's hockey game at a 2-2 stalemate.

At the 7:40 mark of the frame, Post reclaimed the one-goal advantage on a goal from centerman Brandon Crowther, making it 3-2 for the host team. The lead did not last long for the Eagle's, however, as Stephen Jacobs scored the first of what would be two goals at 8:14 of the period, tying it at 3-3. Just over three minutes down the stretch, Jacobs returned for more with number two of the third, notching the eventual game winner from Anthony Nikolopoulos and sophomore Michael Flaherty (Rockland, Mass.).

Graduate Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) claimed the win in net for the Ravens, stopping 39-of-42 shots faced, including a perfect 15-of-15 in the second period. Drew Blodgett took the loss for Post, stopping 26-of-30 shots faced in the effort.

Men's hockey prepares for round two with Post University on Saturday, February 11th at 2:15 p.m., and will look to secure the weekend sweep of the Eagles on the road.
