Stevenson Becomes All-Time Points Leader, Men's Hockey Doubled Up by SNHU, 8-4

HOOKSET, N.H. (2/3/23) – An early three-goal deficit after the first period made things difficult for the Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team, as they found themselves doubled up on by in-state, Northeast-10 rival Southern New Hampshire University, 8-4 at Ice Den Arena on Friday evening.

Men's hockey remains winless over their last four games, and has only won once across their last 12 matchups. The evening's affairs drop the Ravens down to 9-15-1 (6-8-1 NE10) on the season, while the SNHU Penmen skate away 7-15 (6-11 NE10) overall with the win.

The host Penmen went right to work with three even strength goals through the opening frame, beginning with a goal at 6:57 by forward Travis Quigley on a clean wrister from in front. Under 30-seconds later, the host lead would be extended to 2-0 as forward George Thurston sent a shot top corner from almost the exact same spot on the ice. The goals would continue to come in quick succession for the Penmen, as Thurston would then claim his second of the game minutes later to make it a 3-0 contest.

Seeking some sort of boost, graduate Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colo.) finally broke through for Pierce after he gloved the puck down on his way into the offensive zone, sliding a shot five-hole on the SNHU netminder Nathan Loisel to cut the host lead down to 3-1. However, the Penmen didn't waste time in finding the answer, and re-established their three-goal cushion just 00:54 later on a 2-on-1 break. Past the mid-way point of the frame, senior Conor Foley (Nahant, Mass.) converted on his team-leading fifth powerplay goal of the season after redirecting a purposeful shot from defenseman Stephen Jacobs (), cutting back into the SNHU lead to make it 4-2.

Following yet another response goal by the Penmen, Chris Stevenson closed out the second period with a major milestone, becoming the Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey program's all-time leader in points on a back-hander goal, once again going five-hole on SNHU's Nathan Loisel. Entering the third period, the Ravens trailed the Penmen 5-3.

The Ravens received the best possible start to the third period for any trailing team, with an early goal by junior Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, Mass.) on a one-timer from the slot after catching a pass from in deep by Chris Stevenson, making it a one-goal game at 5-4 just 00:39 in. However, a misplayed puck out of the left corner by Raven netminder Brogan McDonald (Gorham, Maine) found a wide-open Dominic DiMambro for SNHU, who buried it into a gaping cage to make it 6-4 with under 15:00 to play. From there, the Raven's would fail to find any more momentum, and succumb to two more goals-against before the final horn, falling 8-4.

Graduate goaltender Kyle Martin () received the start in goal for the Ravens, but was relieved after surrendering three goals on five shots faced. In relief, Brogan McDonald steered away 39-of-44 shots faced, taking the loss for the Ravens. Penmen goalie Nathan Loisel picked up his first win of the season, making 26 saves on 30 shots faced.
