Men's Hockey Bullied By SUNY-Brockport, 8-4

Winchendon, Mass.. (1/14/23) – The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team couldn't snap their four-game losing streak against the SUNY-Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup, falling to the visitors 8-4 at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

The loss comes as the Ravens fifth in a row, moving their record to 8-10-0 (5-4-0 NE10) on the season. The Golden Eagles improve to 6-9-0 (2-6 SUNYAC) with the road victory.

The Golden Eagles wasted no time in the first period, getting on the board early on a goal by forward Connor Galloway on a wrist shot home from the top of the left circle just 32 seconds into the game. Manny Sanchez and Andrew Harley each assisted on the goal. Brockport then added on to their lead shortly thereafter, as Andrew Harley finished off a pass from Connor Galloway in the slot to make it a 2-0 Golden Eagles lead less than 5 minutes into the first.

The Ravens eventually broke silence just past the halfway marker in the first period, when freshman Matt Horan (Methuen, MA) buried a backhander in front after an initial rush by Stephen Jacobs (Hingham, MA) and a shot by Conor Foley (Nahant, MA) that popped out for a rebound. The goal came as Horan's 5th of the season, and cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the final moments of the opening frame left a sour taste in the Ravens mouth, when the Golden Eagles pulled ahead 3-1 with 1:49 left in the period, with Harley collecting his second of the game on the breakaway.

The waters remained dangerous for Pierce in the second, as Brockport scored three more times to take pull ahead to a commanding 6-1 lead.

The Ravens hoped to find some silver lining in the third period, and finally broke through on the man-advantage. Conor Foley tucked in a loose-puck rebound off a redirected shot from defender Stephen Jacobs by Cody Rumsey (York, PA), cutting down the Eagle lead to 7-2. However, Brockport continued to bury the Ravens on Grund's second of the afternoon, placing the score at 8-2.

Despite the score, Pierce managed to come alive late as Devin Rohrich (Pittsburgh, PA) earned his 6th  goal of the season, before ending the period with a late goal from Michael Flaherty (Rockland, MA), his 3rd of the season. However, the late surge could not pull Pierce any closer, as the score finalized at 8-4 for the Golden Eagles.

Freshman goalie Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, NJ) made his third career start for the Ravens in net, suffering the loss (0-4-0) and making 45 saves on 53 shots faced. Dylan Wiemer earned the win for the Golden Eagles (1-1-0), turning aside 20-of-24 shots.

Men's Hockey takes the ice in Winchendon again on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. against Anna Maria in a non-conference matchup.
