Balanced Attack Leads to 6-2 Men's Hockey Win Over Post

WINCHENDON, Mass (12/3/2022) - The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team secured their first-weekend series sweep of the 2022-2023 season, as they took care of business with a 6-2 win over Post University on Saturday evening at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

With the consecutive win, the Ravens move to 8-5 (5-3 NE10), while the Eagles fall to 3-9 (2-5 NE10), extending their losing streak to seven straight games.

The Eagles were eager to start the game off on a high note, opening the scoring just 20 seconds into the action. However, just a little over three minutes later, the Ravens notched the equalizer as Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colorado) was able to work his way into the offensive zone, finding a trailing Jason Ladzinski (Norcross, Georgia) who buried it into an open cage. The assist by Stevenson tied him for the career assists record in program history (57). In the final minute of the period, senior forward Conor Foley (Nahant, Massachusetts) scored from the slot off a feed from Stevenson behind the net to make it 2-1 Franklin Pierce going into the intermission.

With the first and second assists in the period, Stevenson moved to 58 career assists, becoming the programs' all-time leader in the offensive category, passing former teammate Alex Lester who was a 2020 graduate.

The fourth line quickly went to work for Franklin Pierce in the second period, sparking an offensive surge that saw three goals scored by Pierce in the second frame. It all started with a goal by freshman Devin Rohrich (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) at 7:41 of the period, with the assists going to fellow freshman Tyson Springer (East Palestine, Ohio) and Matt Horan (Methuen, Massachusetts). Just under four minutes later, the power play payed-off as Cody Rumsey (York, Pennsylvania) scored on a feed from Foley, bringing the Pierce lead to 4-1. However, the Ravens weren't satisfied, as Devin Rohrich collected his second goal of the period in the slot, making it 5-1 Franklin Pierce. With less than two minutes to go in the period, Post would also strike on the power play, carrying over a 5-2 score into the third.

The final period had a different flavor than its predecessor, with only one goal score by the Ravens belonging to freshman Matt Horan for his third point of the night (1g, 2a). In the 6-2 winning effort, the Ravens played a complete game, as the offense, defense, and goaltending were on point from beginning to end.

Graduate goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Massachusetts) picked up the win (6-3-0) as he made 31 saves on 33 shots faced.

Franklin Pierce will return to the road next weekend for an out-of-conference weekend series against Long Island University, opening on Friday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m.
