Men’s Ice Hockey’s Blanked at Wesleyan (Conn.), 4-0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (November 25, 2017) – A three-goal second period sent host Wesleyan (Conn.) on the way to a 4-0 lead over the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team in non-conference play at Spurrier-Snyder Rink on Saturday afternoon. Four different players had two points each in the win for the Cardinals, who outshot the Ravens, 36-20.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-6-0, while Wesleyan improves to 1-1-1.

After the first period went scoreless, Wesleyan jumped out front with a trio of goals in the middle frame. The eventual game-winner came 4:04 into the stanza, as senior defenseman Theo Tydingco put home his first of the season on the power play, with assists credited to sophomore forward Walker Harris and senior forward Cam McCusker. It would be the only goal the Cardinals would need on the afternoon.

Harris struck for his first of the season as well, 4:41 later, at the 8:45 mark. McCusker notched his second assist of the day, while senior forward Jordan Jancze added a helper as well, as Wesleyan doubled the lead to 2-0. The Cardinals made it 3-0 before the second intermission, on the second of the season from sophomore forward Tyler Wyatt. Senior defenseman Marty Rubin and senior forward Dylan Holze provided the assists, at 17:11.

Wesleyan tacked on a final goal late in the third period to create the 4-0 final. Holze put his fourth of the campaign to the back of the net, while Wyatt completed his two-point night as well, with an assist. Sophomore forward Spencer Fox provided an assist as well, at the 14:21 mark.

Senior goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) finished with 32 saves against 36 shots and suffered the loss (1-5-0) in net for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the ice, junior netminder George Blinick (1-1-0) stopped all 20 shots he faced to pick up the win and his fourth career shutout for Wesleyan.

The Ravens return to the ice on Sunday, Nov. 26, when they travel to Trinity (Conn.) for a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center, in Hartford, Conn.
