Dallaire scores lone Raven goal

Dallaire Dallaire picked up the only goal of the night for the Ravens on Saturday afternoon, his fourth of the season.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (January 21, 2012) – Sophomore forward Jay Nicholls scored twice in the final four minutes of regulation on Saturday afternoon to break a 1-1 tie and lift Framingham State to a 3-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team in non-conference play at Loring Arena. Junior forward Adam Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.) scored the lone goal in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-9-3 (2-2-1 Northeast-10), while Framingham State improves to 3-9-3 (2-6-2 Massachusetts State).

The Ravens picked up the only goal of the first period at the 9:04 mark to take a 1-0 lead, though it would be their only goal of the afternoon. Dallaire notched his fourth of the season, while junior defenseman Tyler Cornele (Cape Coral, Fla.) contributed the assist.

At the 8:20 mark of the middle stanza, Framingham State drew even at 1-1 with a power-play tally from sophomore forward Peter Baldwin, as junior forward Dino Federico (Canton, Mass.) was in the penalty box for slashing at the time. Sophomore forward Daniel Bogdan and freshman defenseman Dylan Cosford assisted on Baldwin's first of the season.

From there, the game went without another goal until the final four minutes of regulation, when Nicholls put his mark on the game. First, at 16:02 of the third period, Nicholls' second of the season would prove to be the game-winning goal, as Bogdan and sophomore defenseman Robert Driscoll provided the assists. Later, with 29 seconds to play, Nicholls tacked on the insurance goal, and created the 3-1 final, off assists from senior defensemen Corey Chaney and Thomas Manning.

Senior goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made 23 saves and took the loss (2-3-0) between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Dale Adams, a former Raven, stopped 35 shots to pick up the win (1-0-0) against his old club for Framingham State.

Franklin Pierce posted a 36-26 advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Framingham State finished 1-for-6 with the man-advantage.

The Ravens return to the ice on Monday, Jan. 23, when they travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Foxboro Sports Center in Foxboro, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Saturday, Jan. 28 against Assumption at 7:30 p.m.
