Dennis Scores Twice as Men’s Ice Hockey Doubles Up SNHU, 4-2

Sophomore adds assist for three-point night

Dennis Dennis factored in on three of the four Franklin Pierce goals in Saturday night's win at SNHU.

HOOKSETT, N.H. (January 14, 2012) – Sophomore forward Brandon Dennis (Williamsport, Md.) scored two goals and assisted on the game-winning goal on Saturday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team to a 4-2 win over Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play at The Ice Den. Sophomore forward Brian Troy collected a goal and an assist to post a two-point night for SNHU in the loss.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-8-3 (2-2-1 Northeast-10), while Southern New Hampshire falls to 1-14-1 (0-5-0 Northeast-10). The win was the second of the year for Franklin Pierce against SNHU, clinching the three-game season series for the Ravens and awarding them two points in the Northeast-10 standings. The two teams will meet once more, at Franklin Pierce on Feb. 18.

The two clubs traded goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest to set a 1-1 score that would hold through the first intermission. Sophomore forward Teddy Walsh (Quincy, Mass.) opened the scoring with his first career goal at the 4:30 mark, with junior forward Adam Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.) contributing the lone assist. Troy answered for SNHU at 9:35 with his first of the season, while sophomore forward Connor Audycki picked up the helper.

Dennis notched the only goal of the second period, 8:29 into the middle stanza, with his fourth of the season, doing all the work himself on the unassisted tally.

The Ravens would hold the 2-1 lead through the second intermission, until junior forward Sean Dunn (Quincy, Mass.) put away the eventual game-winning goal at the 3:03 mark of the final frame. Dennis picked up the only assist on Dunn's fourth goal of the season.

SNHU closed to within a goal with 5:10 to play at regulation when freshman forward John Humphrey made it a 3-2 game with his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Troy completed his two-point game with the lone assist on the play.

However, any potential rally would be stymied with 1:19 to play in regulation. After the Penmen pulled the goalie in favor of the extra attacker, Dennis put his second goal of the game into the empty net to create the 4-2 final, while junior forward Michael Carr (South Boston, Mass.) chipped in an assist. With the assist, Carr has tallied points in four of the last five games and has amassed 6-1-7 over that span.

Senior goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made 24 saves to pick up the win (2-2-0) between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Tyler Holske stopped 30 shots and took the loss (1-13-0) in front of the SNHU net.

Franklin Pierce posted a 34-26 advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Southern New Hampshire finished 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Framingham State for a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Loring Arena in Framingham, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Saturday, Jan. 28 against Assumption at 7:30 p.m.
