Ice Hockey Falls at Stonehill, 4-1

Federico scores lone goal for Ravens

Federico Federico scored for the Ravens on Saturday afternoon at Stonehill.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 20, 2010) – Sophomore forward Dino Federico (Canton, Mass.) scored a second-period goal on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team was defeated on the road, 4-1, by Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at Foxboro Sports Center. Freshman forward Bill Carey scored the game-winning goal for Stonehill in the third period.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-7-0 (0-1-0 Northeast-10), while Stonehill improves to 2-4-0 (1-1-0 Northeast-10).

After the first period went scoreless, Franklin Pierce opened the scoring 7:16 into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Federico put home his third goal of the season, while junior forward Anthony Chighisola (Whitman, Mass.) picked up the assist.

The Ravens appeared to be headed to the second intermission with the lead before Stonehill evened the score at 1-1 with 15 seconds to play in the frame. Senior defenseman Michael Tuplin found his first goal of the season off of assists from sophomore defenseman Tyler Beauregard and sophomore forward Christopher Gorovitz.

Stonehill would score three times in the third period to come away with the 4-1 victory. Carey picked up the eventual game-winner on the power play just 87 seconds into the final stanza. Junior defenseman Matt Doherty chipped in the assist on Carey's first of the season.

The final two goals of the game would both be unassisted tallies. First, freshman forward Bryan Rooney tallied his first of the season at 7:06 to make it a 3-1 lead. Senior forward Angelo Todesca capped off the evening with his fifth goal of the season, shorthanded and into the empty net, with 10 seconds to play in the game.

Freshman goaltender Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) made 32 saves but was saddled with the loss (1-2-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Senior Derek Chapdelaine stopped 26 shots to pick up the win (1-2-0) between the pipes for Stonehill.

Stonehill posted a 36-27 advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Franklin Pierce finished 0-for-6 with the man-advantage.

The Ravens return to the ice on Wednesday, Dec. 1, as they hold their home opener against Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at The Winchendon School Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
