Sweeney Sweeney has been selected All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team.

RINDGE, N.H. (February 25, 2011) – Sophomore forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) leads three members of the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team who have been selected to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference teams, as announced Friday by the conference office. Sweeney was named to the All-Conference First Team, while both sophomore defenseman Brendan McCarron (Andover, Mass.) and freshman goaltender Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) were selected the All-Conference Second Team. In addition, freshman forward Bryan Colella (Medfield, Mass.) has been named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.

On a team which has seen several scoring options felled by injury at different points of the year, Sweeney has ratcheted up his offensive output in recent weeks and has posted 30 points on 14 goals and 16 assists while playing in all 25 games for the Ravens. He has five power-play goals, one shorthanded tally and a pair of game-winning goals. Sweeney recently put together a six-game point-scoring streak between Jan. 22 and Feb. 16, during which he scored 16 points. Among players in the Northeast-10 this season, Sweeney is tied for second in goals, ranks third in points and is tied for sixth in assists.

In addition to his defensive contributions on the blue line, McCarron leads the team's defensemen in scoring, with 15 points on two goals (one on the power play) and 13 assists over 22 games. His scoring output represents a near tripling of his offensive contributions as a freshman, when he finished the season with six points. Among Northeast-10 defensemen, McCarron's 15 points ties him for fourth in scoring.

In his freshman campaign, O'Brien has spent more time in net than any other member of the Ravens' goaltending corps. Over 13 games (12 starts), he has stopped 442 of the 481 shots sent his way to post a .919 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against average with a 7-5-0 record. Twice during the season, O'Brien has made 40 or more saves in a contest, including 45 last week at Stonehill in a victory which locked Franklin Pierce into the third seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Championship. He leads all Northeast-10 netminders in save percentage and winning percentage (.583) and ranks second in goals-against average.

O'Brien O'Brien is one of two Ravens to land on the All-Northeast-10 Second Team.

Colella ranks second on the team in scoring with 16 points on seven goals (four power-play goals) and nine assists and is the only Raven freshman to tally five or more points this season. He has played in 23 games and is tied for the lead in scoring among freshmen in the Northeast-10.

The third-seeded Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they host sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
