Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Weekly Report (PDF)

Sweeney Sweeney is Northeast-10 Player of the Week after figuring on all six of the Ravens' goals last week.

RINDGE, N.H. (February 14, 2011) – Sophomore forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for the week ending on Feb. 13, as announced Monday by the conference office. In addition, freshman goaltender Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) has been named both Northeast-10 Goaltender and Rookie of the Week.

Sweeney lit up the scoreboard repeatedly in a pair of games last week for the Ravens, as he figured in on each of the six goals scored by the team. On Tuesday night at University of New England, he scored two goals and assisted on two others to finish with four points. Over the weekend, he scored the first goal and assisted on the second in Franklin Pierce's 2-1 win over Assumption on Saturday night.

On the season, Sweeney has played in each of the Ravens' 23 games and leads the team in goals (14), assists (14) and points (28). He has scored five times on the power play, once shorthanded and has a pair of game-winning goals, while taking only two penalties totaling four minutes. It is the third Player of the week selection of the season for Sweeney, who also earned the honor on Dec. 6 and Jan. 31.

While Sweeney was filling the net, O'Brien was busy stopping pucks at the other end of the ice, as he played every minute of both games in net for the Ravens. Despite being saddled with the loss at UNE on Tuesday, he collected a career-best 48 saves along the way. On Saturday night, O'Brien stopped 31 shots to earn the victory.

On the season, O'Brien has seen the most time in net of any Franklin Pierce goaltender and has appeared in 12 games, including 11 starts. He owns a 6-5-0 record to go with a 3.32 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. O'Brien was previously named Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Week on Dec. 6 and Feb. 7.

O'Brien O'Brien made 79 saves over two games last week to earn Goaltender and Rookie of the Week accolades from the Northeast-10.

The Ravens return to the ice on Wednesday, Feb. 16, when they travel to Assumption for a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at Buffone Rink in Worcester, Mass. Franklin Pierce will host a game in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship on Feb. 26, with the time and opponent to be determined.
