Ice Hockey Falls at SUNY Fredonia, 6-2

Mills, Dallaire score for Ravens

Dallaire Dallaire scored his second goal of the season, and fourth of the season, at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday afternoon.

FREDONIA, N.Y. (January 15, 2011) – Sophomore forwards Adam Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.) and Tom Mills (Oxford, England) each scored on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team was defeated, 6-2, by SUNY Fredonia in non-conference play at Steele Hall Ice Arena. Senior forward Alex Morton scored twice and added a pair of assists to total four points in the victory for SUNY Fredonia.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-14-0 (2-3-0 Northeast-10), while SUNY Fredonia improves to 8-9-0 (3-5-0 SUNYAC).

SUNY Fredonia took the lead right out of the gate and never relinquished it with two goals in the first seven minutes of the game. Morton opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the opening period with his seventh of the season off assists from junior forward Bryan Ross and senior defenseman Chris de Bruyn. The Blue Devils made it 2-0 at the 6:41 mark when Ross put home his eighth of the season while senior defenseman Steve Rizer and senior forward Jordan Oye picked up the assists.

Franklin Pierce got on the board at the 13:18 mark of the period to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into the first intermission. Dallaire scored his second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season with an assist going to sophomore defenseman Brendan McCarron (Andover, Mass.).

The second period was all SUNY Fredonia, as the Blue Devils scored four times to run the lead all the way to 6-1. Oye kicked things off 12 seconds into the period with his team-leading 13th goal of the year, which proved to be the game-winner. Just 20 seconds later, de Bruyn tallied his fourth of the season to make it 4-1. Ross and Morton provided the assists on both goals. Morton and sophomore forward Mitch Kulikoski added power-play goals later in the middle frame to round out SUNY Fredonia's scoring on the afternoon.

Franklin Pierce scored the only goal of the third period to create the 6-2 final. Mills popped home his second of the season on the power play at the 8:32 mark, with assists going to junior forward Justin Adams (Homer, Alaska) and senior forward Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.).

Junior goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made 24 saves and took the loss (0-7-0) in net for Franklin Pierce. Freshman Mark Friesen made 27 saves and picked up the win (5-6-0) between the pipes for SUNY Fredonia.

SUNY Fredonia posted a 30-29 advantage in shots on goal on the night and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Franklin Pierce finished 1-for-10 with the man-advantage.

The Ravens return to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 19, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at The Ice Den in Hooksett, N.H. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Jan. 29 against Stonehill at 7 p.m.
