Schursky scores lone goal for Ravens
Nathaniel Schursky scored the lone goal of the game for Franklin
Pierce on Monday night at Wentworth.

BOSTON, Mass. (November 6,
2009) – Junior defenseman Kyle Richardson scored the
game-winning goal at the 10:13 mark of the first period on Monday
night, as Wentworth Institute of Technology defeated the Franklin
Pierce University ice hockey team, 5-1, in non-conference action at
Matthews Arena. Sophomore forward Nathaniel Schursky
(Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored the only goal of the game for
Franklin Pierce in defeat.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-2-0 (0-0-0 Northeast-10),
while Wentworth improves to 2-0-0 (1-0-0 ECAC Northeast) with the
victory.
Wentworth opened the scoring 6:08 into the opening period, when
sophomore forward Luke Heller scored his first of the season by
deflecting home a feed from senior defenseman Martin Winzer. The
Ravens would draw even just 2:08 later, as Schursky picked up his
first goal of the season on assists from junior forward
Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.) and freshman
forward William Aubin (Sterling, Mass.) on the
power play.
However, Richardson’s first of the season just another 1:57
later would close the first period’s scoring and put
Wentworth on top to stay, while sophomore defenseman Alan Dionne
and sophomore forward Casey Shade picked up the assists on the
power-play tally.
Wentworth would round out the game’s scoring with two goals
in the second and one in the third. In the middle stanza, junior
forward Geric Brodt tallied his first of the season on assists from
freshman defenseman Shaun Jameson and sophomore forward Forrest
Ellis at the 4:39 mark. Junior forward Tyler Medeiros then made it
4-1 with his first of the season 5:09 later off assists from
sophomore forward Mike Paglino and freshman defenseman Dylan
Barbieri.
The final goal of the game was scored by freshman forward Mike
Marrocco on the power play with 3:29 to play in the third period.
Assists were credited to Jameson and freshman forward Mark
McKamey.
Sophomore goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made
32 saves, but took the loss (1-2-0) in net for the Ravens. Senior
Justin Marriott made 25 saves to pick up the win (2-0-0) between
the pipes for Wentworth.
Wentworth held a 37-26 edge in shots on goal in the contest and
went 2-for-6 on the power play. Franklin Pierce finished 1-for-10
with the man-advantage.
The Ravens return to the ice on Thursday, Nov. 12, when they travel
to Westfield State for a non-conference contest. Faceoff is
scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield, Mass.
Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Nov. 17 against Southern New
Hampshire at 7 p.m.
