Ice Hockey Falls at Assumption, 5-2
Chighisola sets program single-season points record
Anthony Chighisola picked up his 32nd point of the season, a new
Franklin Pierce record, at Assumption on Saturday night.

WORCESTER, Mass. (February
13, 2010) – Sophomore forward Anthony
Chighisola (Whitman, Mass.) scored a goal to set another
program record on Saturday night, but the Franklin Pierce
University ice hockey team was defeated, 5-2, by Assumption in
Northeast-10 Conference play at Buffone Rink. The goal gave
Chighisola 32 points so far this season, which gave him sole
possession of Franklin Pierce’s single-season point record.
The previous record-holder was Joe Fields, who scored 31 points on
15 goals and 16 assists in 2007-08.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-14-2 (3-6-1
Northeast-10), while Assumption improves to 12-9-1 (8-1-1) with the
victory.
After 11 scoreless minutes to open the contest, the two teams
traded goals in the final nine minutes of the first period to head
to the first intermission tied at 1-1. Chighisola struck first,
with his team-leading 17th goal of the season, off an assist from
freshman forward Jonathan Schanke (Wallingford,
Conn.) on the power play at the 11:16 mark. Just 3:36
later, freshman forward Jaime Vona answered with his eighth of the
season for Assumption, while freshman forward Keven Meehan picked
up the lone assist.
Assumption would take the lead for good with a pair of goals early
in the second period. Just 70 seconds into the frame, sophomore
forward Taylor Larsen struck for his 15th of the season. Then, at
the 6:02 mark, junior forward Peter Bouchie scored his second goal
of the season, which would prove to be the game-winner. Senior
defenseman Pat Keenan and freshman forward Joseph Fimiani provided
the assists on Bouchie’s score.
The Greyhounds would then push the lead as high as 5-1 in the third
period. Junior forward Patrick Fitzgibbons scored his sixth of the
year on the power play at the 7:38 mark off feeds from Meehan and
sophomore defenseman Kevin Glanzman. Junior defenseman Marc Labb
piled on with his second of the campaign just 2:05 later, while
freshman forward Dave Maiocco and senior forward Joshua Boissoneau
picked up the assists.
Franklin Pierce picked up a goal with 9:03 to play in the game to
create the 5-2 final. Freshman forward Roscoe Sweeney
(Falmouth, Mass.) scored his 11th of the season, off of
assists from Schanke and freshman forward Michael Carr
(South Boston, Mass.) on the power play.
Sophomore goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made
23 saves and took the loss (3-8-2) in net for Franklin Pierce.
Sophomore Nick Blanchette stopped 36 shots and picked up the win
(11-4-1) between the pipes for Assumption.
Franklin Pierce posted a 38-28 advantage in shots on goal in the
game and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Assumption finished
1-for-5 with the man-advantage.
The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Feb. 20, when they return
home to wrap up the regular season and host Stonehill in a
Northeast-10 Conference contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at
The Winchendon School Ice Arena and Franklin Pierce will honor its
five seniors prior to the start of the contest.
