Roscoe Sweeney Roscoe Sweeney has been named to Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week.

RINDGE, N.H. (February 1, 2010) – Freshman forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 31, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Sweeney tallied five points on three goals and two assists in Franklin Pierce’s only game last week, a 7-4 victory at Stonehill on Saturday. Of his three goals, two came shorthanded, which marked the first time in program history a Raven had scored twice shorthanded in the same season, let alone in the same game. Sweeney’s second shorthanded goal would prove to be the game-winner and came with Franklin Pierce facing a two-man disadvantage. It was the second three-on-five goal scored in program history, with the other coming earlier this season by senior forward Phil LaBreck against University of New England on Jan. 12. Sweeney’s performance was the first five-point game by a Franklin Pierce player since Casey Goodell chalked up five points with one goal and four assists in a 9-6 win at Worcester State on Nov. 12, 2007.

On the season, Sweeney is second on the team with 24 points in his first 20 games. He has scored nine goals and leads the team with 15 assists. Sweeney has a pair of power-play goals and a pair of shorthanded goals on the campaign and joins sophomore forward Anthony Chighisola as the only Ravens to average at least one point per game.

The Ravens (5-13-2, 2-4-1 Northeast-10) return to the ice on Saturday, Feb. 6, when they return home to host Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Winchendon School Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
