WINCHENDON, Mass. (January
12, 2010) – Senior forward Phil LaBreck
(Thornton, N.H.) scored two goals and sophomore forward
Anthony Chighisola (Whitman, Mass.) tallied a goal
and an assist on Tuesday night to lead the Franklin Pierce
University ice hockey team to a 4-2 victory over University of New
England in non-conference play at The Winchendon School Ice

loss.
Franklin Pierce scored the only goal of the first period at the
11:40 mark, despite being at a 5-on-3 disadvantage, thanks to a
pair of penalties. However, LaBreck used his shin pads to block the
shot of a UNE defenseman and headed the other way on a breakaway.
He snapped a shot over the shoulder of UNE freshman goaltender
Dallas Ungurian to pot his fifth goal of the season and give the
Ravens a 1-0 lead.
University of New England would strike for the only goal of the
second period when freshman forward Brendan Brickley sent a pass
forward that sprung freshman forward Jake Moscatel and sophomore
forward Chris Bolton on a 2-on-1. Moscatel drew the defender
towards him and slipped a pass to Bolton, who finished off his
first goal of the season at the 12:49 of the middle stanza to tie
the game at 1-1 heading into the third period.
Franklin Pierce opened a busy third period with a goal at the 2:30
mark to take a 2-1 lead. Chighisola snapped a shot just inside the
far post from the top of the left-wing circle for his team-leading
ninth goal of the season, while senior defenseman Steve
Della-Calce (East Stroudsburg, Pa.). However, the
Nor’easters would answer once again and tie the game with a
goal on a 5-on-3 advantage at the 9:46 mark. Sophomore forward Ted
Fabian stuffed home his second goal of the season, while freshman
defenseman Kody Collins tallied the lone assist.
Franklin Pierce took the lead for good at 13:30 of the final period
when junior forward Sean Woodring (Rogue River,
Ore.) finished off his second goal of the season from the
left post. Freshman defenseman Brendan McCarron (Andover,
Mass.) and Chighisola picked up the assists on the
power-play score. LaBreck put the game on ice with five seconds
remaining when he scored an empty-net goal off an assist from
freshman forward Michael Carr (South Boston,
Mass.).
Senior goaltender Jon Tuttle (Concord, N.H.) made
31 saves to earn the win (3-4-0) in net for Franklin Pierce.

for University of New England.
