Siok Leads Ice Hockey Past Morrisville State, 3-2

– Freshman goaltender Ben
Siok (Holden, Mass./St. John’s Shrewsbury) made 43
saves on Saturday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University ice
hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Morrisville State in
non-conference play at Morrisville State College IcePlex. Freshman
forward Anthony Chighisola
(Whitman, Mass./Archbishop Williams) scored the game-winning
goal in the third period as the Ravens earned a weekend split in
Morrisville.
Franklin Pierce graduate forward Ryan Strayer (Murfreesboro, Tenn./New England
Jr. Coyotes) scored the only goal of the first period on the
power play with 2:08 to play in the frame. Junior forward Phil LaBreck (Thornton, N.H./John Stark
Regional) and senior forward Shane Murphy (Tolland, Conn./The Gunnery
School) provided assists on Strayer’s second of the
season.
Junior forward Casey Goodell
(Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) extended the lead to 2-0 for the
Ravens 3:26 into the second period with his fourth of the campaign
off a feed from senior forward Jeff Kasper (South Boston, Mass./Catholic
Memorial). However, Morrisville state would score the next
two goals to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second
intermission. First, senior forward Keith Williams (Whitesboro,
N.Y./Whitesboro) netted his fourth goal of the year, just 1:26
after Goodell scored, with assists from sophomore defenseman Derek
Matheson (Durham, Ontario) and senior defenseman Timothy Dorak
(Honeoye, N.Y./Syracuse Jr. A Stars) to slice the lead in half.
Then, at the 9:10 mark, junior forward Dana Calderone (Bronx,
N.Y./Connecticut Jr. Wolves) pulled the Mustangs even with his
fifth of the season from junior forwards Andrew Alarie (Carlisle,
Ontario) and Joakim Cedin (Spanga, Sweden).
Chighisola would score the only goal of the third period as he tied
for the Franklin Pierce team lead with his fifth of the season. The
game-winning goal came unassisted at the 8:41 mark.
Morrisville State held a 45-29 edge in shots on goal in the game
and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Franklin Pierce finished
1-for-6 with the man advantage.
Siok made 43 saves in net to earn the victory for Franklin Pierce.
Sophomore Dave Labaff (Potsdam, N.Y./South Grenville Rangers)
recorded 26 saves in defeat for Morrisville State.
The Ravens (3-5-1, 1-0-0 Northeast-10, 2-3-1 ECAC Northeast) return
to the ice on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when they travel to take on
Johnson & Wales in an ECAC Northeast Conference contest.
Faceoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. at Rhode Island Sports Center in
North Smithfield, R.I. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on
Friday, Dec. 12 against Saint Michael’s at 7 p.m. Morrisville
State (1-10-1, 0-7-1 SUNYAC) returns to action on Dec. 13 at
Hamilton.
