HARRISVILLE, R.I. (November 12, 2008) – Sophomore forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif./Seguin Bruins) scored the game-winning goal and added an assist on Wednesday night to lead Nichols to a 4-2, non-conference victory over the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team at Levy Rink. Freshman forward Anthony Chighisola (Whitman, Mass./Archbishop Williams) scored his second goal in as many games to start the season for Franklin Pierce.

Nichols opened the scoring 7:43 into the first period when junior forward Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, Mich./Traverse City North Stars) stuffed home the rebound of a shot by freshman forward Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ontario/Georgetown Raiders). The Bison would extend the lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded goal at the 5:35 mark of the second when sophomore forward JoJo Bojanowski (Washington Township, Mich./Markham Waxers) converted on a two-on-one break off a feed from freshman forward Brett Englebright (Pekin, Ill./Kenai River Brown Bears).

From there, Franklin Pierce would make use of the power play to knot things up a 2-2 before the end of the second period. First, it was junior forward Casey Goodell (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) who notched his first goal of the season on a two-man advantage when he deflected home a shot from the point by senior forward Jeff Kasper (South Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial) at the 6:54 mark. Later, at the 10:41 mark, Chighisola capitalized on a Nichols turnover to score an unassisted power-play goal. The game remained tied heading into the second intermission, despite a 31-10 shots advantage for Nichols over the first 40 minutes.

However, Nichols would score two power-play goals of its own in the third to put the game away. Munson netted the game-winner at the 8:19 mark on a play immediately following a faceoff. Senior forward Anthony Monte (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Force) won the draw to the point where senior defenseman Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill./Peoria Mustangs) sent a shot towards the net. Franklin Pierce junior goaltender Jon Tuttle (Concord, N.H./Concord) made the initial save, but Munson buried the rebound for his third goal of the season to put Nichols ahead to stay. Sophomore forward Matt Sayer (Lowell, Mass./New England Huskies) knocked home a rebound at the 11:47 mark to tally an insurance goal with assists going to Ella and Munson.

Nichols held a 43-12 shots advantage in the game. Senior goaltender Keith Fink (Easton, Md./Collingwood Blues) made 10 saves for Nichols to earn the victory. Tuttle stopped 39 shots in front of the Franklin Pierce net in defeat.
