EASTON, Mass. (December 10,
2007) – Six different players scored for host
Stonehill College as the Skyhawks defeated Franklin Pierce
University, 6-1, in a Northeast-10 and ECAC Northeast Conference
men's ice hockey contest on Monday night at the Bridgewater Ice
Arena.
Linemates Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth) and
Brendan O’Brien (Braintree, Mass./Deerfield Academy) each
recorded four points to lead the Skyhawks to the win. Curran posted
a goal and three assists, while O’Brien recorded assists on
four Stonehill goals. Juniors Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth,
Mass./Tilton School) and Billy Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H./Bishop
Guertin) also recorded a goal and an assist each for Stonehill.
Franklin Pierce’s lone goal on the evening came off the
stick of sophomore Phil LaBreck (Thornton, N.H./Laconia
Leafs), who tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the
season. Assists on the tally went to junior Shane Murphy
(Tolland, Conn./The Gunnery School) and sophomore
Casey Goodell (Rochester, N.H./Laconia Leafs).
Stonehill held a 46-33 shot advantage over the Ravens, including a
19-6 edge in the second period. Freshman goaltender Mike Manna
(Framingham, Mass./Xaverian) made 32 stops to earn his second win
of the season for Stonehill, while Raven freshman Matt McCarthy
(Natick, Mass./New Hampton School) stopped a season-high 40 shots
on 46 attempts, including 30 saves alone over the final 40 minutes
of play.
The Skyhawks scored three times in the first period to open up a
three-goal advantage that the team would not relinquish. Frank
Amato (West Springfield, Mass./Loomis Chaffee) began the scoring at
11:27 of the first, and Chase Feole (Windham, N.H./Salem) gave the
home team a two-goal advantage with the eventual game-winning goal
at the 17:03 mark. Ninteau followed just over two minutes later
with his second goal of the year with 50 seconds remaining in the
opening period.
LaBreck responded quickly to Ninteau’s tally, as he got the
Ravens on the board a mere 22 seconds later with his seventh goal
of the season, with Murphy and Goodell getting credit for the
assists. LaBreck and Goodell are tied for the team lead with 14
points, with Goodell pacing all Franklin Pierce and Northeast-10
skaters with 11 assists on the year.
Stonehill scored three more times over the final 40 minutes to put
the game away, including power-play tallies by Reissfelder at 16:54
of the second period and Anthony Zannetti (Ludlow,
Mass./Springfield Catholic) with 6:30 remaining in the third
frame.

and 29 with two games at the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
