RINDGE, N.H. (February 13,
2008) – Two student-athletes from the Franklin
Pierce University men’s ice hockey team were named to the
Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team, the conference office
announced on Wednesday afternoon.
To be eligible for selection to the team, which was selected by
the Conference’s sports information directors,
student-athletes must have participated in at least half of the
team’s games as a starter or significant contributor,
achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or higher (on a 4.0
scale) and completed at least one academic year at their current
institution.
Junior Coursen Schneider (Stony Point, N.Y./Avon Old
Farms) earned a spot on the team for the second
consecutive season, while sophomore Phil LaBreck (Thornton,
N.H./Laconia Leafs) was named to the team for the first
time. The two selections mark the first time that the Ravens have
placed multiple players on the NE-10 All-Academic team, while
LaBreck and Schneider also boast the two highest GPAs among the six
players selected to the team.
Schneider, a Biology major at Franklin Pierce, earns All-Academic
honors for the second time with a 3.76 cumulative GPA. Despite
playing in only 13 games this season, the junior winger has scored
nine goals and added nine assists for 18 points, all career-high
totals. Schneider ranks third on the team (seventh in the
Northeast-10) in goals and seventh on the team in points, while his
six power-play goals are second among Raven skaters and third in
the conference. He also became the first player in program history
to record four points in a game twice in the same season, after a
one-goal, three-assist effort against Assumption College on Feb. 2
that earned him NE-10 Player of the Week honors.
In his third season with the team, the Stony Point, N.Y., native
has 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 57 career games,
sitting in the top-10 all-time at Franklin Pierce in all three
categories. He is tied for seventh in goals, is ninth in points and
ranks 10th in assists all-time at the school, while his nine goals
so far this season are tied for seventh on the school’s
single-season list.
Phil LaBreck has been named
to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team. |
LaBreck led all All-Academic
honorees with a 3.82 cumulative GPA while majoring in Political
Science at Franklin Pierce. The sophomore has scored 12 goals and
added eight assists for 20 points in the first 21 games of the
season, ranking second on the team in goals (T-3rd NE-10) and tied
for third among Ravens in points (T-7th NE-10). LaBreck, who was
named the NE-10 Player of the Week on Dec. 3 after a three-goal,
two-assist week against Suffolk University and Framingham State
College, also recorded the ninth hat trick in program history on
Feb. 2 in the 8-4 win over Assumption.
A native of Thornton, N.H., LaBreck currently sits in a tie for
fourth place on the school’s single-season goals list with
his 12 tallies so far this season, while his 20 points are tied for
seventh on the program’s single-season list.
Schneider and LaBreck were also two of the seven members of the
men’s ice hockey team that earned spots on the
University’s Fall 2007 Athletic Department Honor Roll, which
was announced on Feb. 4.
Franklin Pierce (6-15-0, 1-3-0 NE-10, 4-9-0 ECAC NE) returns to
the ice on Monday evening, when the Ravens travel to Fitchburg
State College to take on the Falcons beginning at 7 p.m. The team
remains on the road for the remainder of the 2007-08 regular
season, which finishes up on Feb. 23 at Southern New Hampshire
University.
