Worcester State Skates Past Franklin Pierce, 5-1

DelSavio notches team-leading eighth goal of the season in Raven loss

AUBURN, MASS. (January 25, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team suffered a tough 5-1 setback to Worcester State College in ECAC Northeast Conference action this evening at the Daniel Horgan Memorial Ice Rink.

Senior tri-captain Josh McClellan (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) led the Worcester State attack, posting a game-high three points on one goal and two assists. Senior tri-captain Chris Krawczyk (Marlboro, Mass./Marlboro) netted two goals to aid the Lancers, while freshmen Dan Drinkwater (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Mark Rintel (Oakland Gardens, NY/Benjiman Cardozo) added one goal and one assist each.

Senior tri-captain Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) scored the lone goal for Franklin Pierce, while sophomore Ed Kus (Webster, Mass./Norwich Ice Breakers) chipped in with an assist.

Worcester State opened the scoring early in the first period as Krawczyk connected for his first goal of the game off assists from McClellan and sophomore Tom Ford (N. Grafton, MA/St. John's).

In the second period, the Lancers extended their lead to 3-0 as McClellan and Krawczyk found the back of the net. McClellan registered his fifth goal of the season just 4:45 into the period, while Krawczyk added a power-play goal at the 9:43 mark.

Worcester State continued its scoring pursuit early in the third period as Rintel recorded his eighth goal of the season just 1:35 seconds into the frame. Franklin Pierce countered with DelSavio's team-leading eighth goal of the season just 1:37 later, but Drinkwater added his second collegiate goal late in the period to secure the Lancer victory.

Worcester State sophomore goaltender Jason Richardson (Perkasie, PA/Wyoming Seminary) collected 35 saves to earn his fifth victory of the season. Franklin Pierce goaltender Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) stopped 37 shots despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (4-10-2, 1-3-0 NE-10, 1-7-2 ECAC NE) will be in action again on Saturday as it hosts Assumption College at 4:30 p.m. Worcester State (5-11-1,
3-6-0 ECAC NE) hosts Framingham State College on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
