UMass Dartmouth Blanks Franklin Pierce, 7-0

Vrolyk leads Corsairs to 19th victory of the season

DARTMOUTH, MASS. (February 3, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team suffered a tough 7-0 loss to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in ECAC Northeast Conference action this evening at the Hetland Ice Arena.

Junior Tyler Vrolyk (Boylston, Mass./New England Jr. Falcons) led the UMass Dartmouth offensive attack, scoring two points on two goals scored. Senior Peter Lindner (Parlin, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior Jon Finn (Warwick, R.I./Boston Harborwolves) were also solid, adding one goal and one assist each, while sophomore Mike McNulty (Hingham, Mass./Winchendon Academy) chipped in with two assists.

UMass opened the scoring early in the first period as junior Jeff Grant (Burlington, Mass./Austin Prep) connected for his 18th goal of the season at the 3:17 mark. Vrolyk and freshman Matt Serino (Saugus, Mass./Avon Old Farms) also connected for scores throughout the first period to give the Corsairs a commanding 3-0 lead.

In the second period, UMass totaled two more unanswered goals as Lindner and Finn scored back-to-back goals in a 1:26 span midway through the frame. Vrolyk clinched the victory for the Corsairs in the third period with his second goal of the game, while sophomore Mark Trahan (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) added an extra insurance goal with 0:08 remaining in regulation.

UMass Dartmouth out-shot Franklin Pierce 35 to 11. Junior goaltender Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) finished with 28 saves for the Ravens, while Corsair sophomore goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, Mass./Valley Jr. Warriors) stopped 11 shots to earn the shutout.  

Franklin Pierce (5-12-2, 1-3-0 NE-10, 1-9-2 ECAC NE) will be in action again next Saturday as it travels to Stonehill College at 5:40 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (19-1-1, 11-0-0 ECAC NE) will travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
