Franklin Pierce Falls to Stonehill, 9-1

Roundy collects first career hat-trick to lead Skyhawks in victory

BRIDGEWATER, MASS. (February 10, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey suffered its second-straight loss, dropping a tough 9-1 match to Stonehill College in non-conference action this evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

Freshman Pete Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball Union) led the Stonehill attack, posting his first career hat trick for three points, while junior Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass./Springfield Cathedral) added four points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass./Deerfield Academy) was also solid totaling four points on one goal and three assists and junior Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) chipped with three helpers.

Junior Pete Wilson (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) scored the lone goal for Franklin Pierce, while senior captain Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) and junior Joe Fields (Lansdale, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) each collected an assist.

Stonehill opened the scoring midway through the first period, exploding for three unanswered goals in a 4:40-span. Sophomore James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass./Xaverian) started the rally with an unassisted goal at the 9:03 mark, while Roundy and Zanetti followed with back-to-back scores.

Early in the second period, Roundy and O'Brien extended Stonehill's edge to 5-0 with one goal apiece. Franklin Pierce managed to break its scoring silence at the 7:59 mark on Wilson's fourth goal of the season, but the Skyhawks added to more goals late in the period on scores by Roundy and sophomore Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass./Tilton School) to take a 7-1 advantage.

Sophomore Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass./Loomis Chaffee) and Zanetti each registered third period scores to clinch the victory for Stonehill. Amato recorded his sixth goal of the year at the 9:03 mark, while Zanetti connected for his second goal of the game with 0:52 remaining in regulation.

Stonehill out-shot Franklin Pierce by a 36-30 margin for the contest. Senior Josh Green (Mendon, Mass./Gunnery Prep) collected 29 saves to earn the victory for Skyhawks, while junior goaltenders Spencer Utman (Brockville, Ontario/SUNY-Canton) and Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) combined for 27 saves in net for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (5-13-2, 1-3-0 NE-10, 1-9-2 ECAC NE) will be in action again on Monday as it hosts Fitchburg State College at 7 p.m. Stonehill College (9-10-1, 6-8-1 ECAC NE, 2-0-1 NE-10) will travel to Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
