Nichols Ices Franklin Pierce, 8-1

Monte and Gervais lead Bisons to third straight victory

WICHENDON, MASS. (January 20, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team suffered a tough 8-1 loss to Nichols College in ECAC Northeast Conference action this evening at the Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

Sophomores Anthony Monte (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Force) and Ryan Gervais (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Force) led the Nichols College attack, registering one goal and two assists each. Classmate Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill./Peoria Mustangs) connected for a team-high two goals, while sophomore Jeff Bieber (Littleton, Col./Cincinnati Cobras) and freshman Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, Mich./Traverse City North Stars) each chipped in with two assists.

Freshman Casey Goodell (Rochester, N.H./Laconia Leafs) scored the lone Raven goal late in the third period off assists from sophomore Coursen Schneider (Stoney Point, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) and classmate Matt Whitney (Plymouth, Conn./Hartford Jr. Wolfpack).

Nichols opened the contest with five goals through the first period to take a commanding 5-0 lead into the second frame. Ruwe started the rally for the Bisons just  2:57 into the period, before capping the scoring explosion with his second goal of the game at the 16:43 mark. Senior Zach Lindsay (Enfield, Conn./Connecticut Jr. Whalers), classmate Corey Horner (South Bend, Ind./Bay City Bombers), and Gervais each added a goal in the Bison rally.

In the second period, Nichols notched two more scores as Monte connected for his 14th goal of the season and sophomore Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, Calif./Bay City Bombers) tallied his first score of the game.

Nichols added one more score in third period as Cook recorded his 13th goal of the year. Franklin Pierce broke the scoring silence late in the period on Goodell's third goal of the season.

Nichols out-shot Franklin Pierce 42-to-18. Bison sophomore goaltender Keith Fink (Easton, Md./Colingwood Blues) totaled 17 saves to earn his ninth victory of the season, while junior goaltenders Spencer Utman (Brockville, Ontario/SUNY-Canton) and Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) combined for 34 saves for Franklin Pierce.

Franklin Pierce (4-9-2, 1-3-0 NE-10, 1-6-2 ECAC NE) is back in action on Thursday as it travels to Worcester State College at 5:30 p.m. Nichols (11-4-1, 6-3-0 ECAC NE) will travel to Wentworth tomorrow at 7 p.m.
