Franklin Pierce Names Loiseau Head Ice Hockey Coach

Ravens assistant promoted to become program's second head coach in varsity era

RINDGE, N.H. (March 14, 2007) - Franklin Pierce has promoted assistant coach Scott Loiseau to head coach of the men's ice hockey program at the College. The announcement was made today by Bruce Kirsh, Vice President and Director of Athletics at the College, and confirmed by President Dr. George J. Hagerty.

Loiseau takes over for Jay McCormack, who resigned after 17 years at the helm last week. Loiseau will also continue in his role as assistant coach with the Ravens nationally-ranked baseball program.

"Following an extensive assessment of our men's ice hockey program, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Loiseau as our new full-time head ice hockey/assistant baseball coach," said Kirsh. "Scott is a ‘diamond in the rough', who has exhibited extraordinary leadership skills, an excellent work ethic, and an outstanding ability to relate to young people. He has been mentored by a number of outstanding coaches during his playing career, as well as his brief tenure as a graduate assistant in our hockey and baseball programs."

Loiseau is a former four-year letter winner in ice hockey at Saint Peter-Marian High School in Worcester, Mass., his hometown. He also played for the Boston Junior Bruins and Franklin Pierce as a freshman.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to work with these young men," said Loiseau. "This team has a great core of returning players that have the potential to do some special things. I am looking forward to getting started and preparing for our upcoming season."

Loiseau recently completed his first year as an assistant coach with the ice hockey program, where he assisted McCormack in all facets of game preparation and training. He is also in his third season as an assistant coach with the baseball program and the second in which he has also served as the head coach of the junior varsity baseball team.

"Scott will begin his responsibilities effective immediately," said Kirsh. "I am convinced he is the right person, at the right time, to lead our ice hockey program into the future."

Loiseau is a 2002 graduate of Franklin Pierce where he was an All-Northeast Region member of the College's baseball team as a senior. He also played two seasons of professional baseball with the independent Can-Am League Worcester Tornadoes, including the Tornadoes League Championship season in 2005.
