Fitchburg State Holds Off Franklin Pierce, 5-3

Moore and Dryer combine for eight points to lead Falcons to victory

WINCHENDON, MASS. (February 12, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey suffered its third-straight loss, dropping a tough 5-3 match to Fitchburg State College in ECAC Northeast Conference action this evening at the Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

Fitchburg State seniors Ryan Moore (Randolph, Mass./Curry College) and Mike Dryer (Rockland, Mass./Bay State Breakers) led the Falcon offensive attack as the two forwards combine for eight points, posting two goals and two assists each. Senior Jason Ledo (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) was also solid with two assists, while junior Chad Larkowski (St. Louis, Missouri/St. Louis Jr. Blues) chipped in with a goal.

Sophomore Jeff Kasper (South Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial) led Franklin Pierce offensively, posting two goals for two points, while freshman Rob Perretta (Staten Island, N.Y./Brockville Tiki's) added a Raven score. Sophomores Matt Whitney (Plymouth, Conn./Hartford Jr. Wolfpack), Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne), and Coursen Schneider (Stoney Point, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) each added one assist in the contest.

Fitchburg State opened the scoring with three unanswered goals throughout the first period. Moore started the scoring explosion midway through the first as he connected for his first goal of the game off assists from Ledo and Dryer. Larkowski gave the Falcons a 2-0 advantage just 1:38 later as he collected his fifth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Ron Carlucci (Stamford, Conn./N.J. Hitmen). Dryer capped the three goal scoring rally by the Falcons at the 17:19 mark with his 11th goal of the season.

In the second period, Fitchburg came out firing as Moore registered his 20th goal of the season just 0:50 into the period. Franklin Pierce fired back with a Kasper goal at the 8:42 mark, but Fitchburg countered midway through the period on Dryer's second score of the game.

In the third frame, Franklin Pierce cut its deficit to 5-3 on goals by Kasper and Peretta, but junior goaltender Devan McConnell (Lake Stevens, Wash./St. Louis Jr. Blues) made nine third-period saves to preserve the win for Fitchburg State. McConnell totaled 26 saves throughout the game, while junior goaltender Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) stopped 24 shots for the Ravens.
