Assumption Upends Franklin Pierce, 6-3

DelSavio leads Ravens with a game-high two goals

WINCHENDON, MASS. (January 27, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team suffered a tough 6-3 loss to Assumption College in non-conference action this evening at the Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

Assumption freshman Atte Uola (Turku, Finland/Lot Gymnasium) led all scorers with a game-high three points on one goal (game-winner) and two assists. Junior John Routhier (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic) and classmate Jim Trahon (Needham, Mass./Needham) each registered one goal and one assist for the Greyhounds while senior captain Dan Surette (Woburn, Mass./Woburn) and freshman Tim Dupuis (W. Suffield, Conn./Suffield) added one goal apiece.

Senior captain Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) connected for a game-high two goals to lead Franklin Pierce, while junior Joe Fields (Lansdale, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) paced the offense with two assists. Sophomore Coursen Schneider (Stoney Point, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) chipped in with one goal scored.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring just 0:12 into the first period as DelSavio deposited his first goal of the game off assists from Fields and sophomore Kyle Kruse (Bourne, Mass./Bourne). The Ravens extended their lead just 3:52 later on DelSavio's tenth goal of the season, but Assumption fired back with a Dan Surette goal at the 15:59 mark to cut the Raven lead to 2-1.

In the second period, Franklin Pierce took a 3-1 lead on Schneider's fifth score of the season, but Assumption rallied for three unanswered goals to close out the second frame. Sophomore Chris Genovese (Woburn, Mass./Governors Academy) started the Greyhound rally with his second goal of the season at the 13:16 mark, while Dupuis and Uola followed with two consecutive scores..

Assumption added two more goals in the third period to clinch its fourth victory of the season. Trahon recorded his third goal of the season off assists from Uola and Jon Retelle (Monmouth, Maine/Kents Hill School) before Routhier collected an empty net goal at the 17:37 mark.

Sophomore goaltender Casey McNally (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg) posted 37 saves in net for Assumption, while junior goaltender Spencer Utman (Brockville, Ontario/SUNY-Canton) stopped 47 shots for Franklin Pierce.

Franklin Pierce (4-11-2, 1-3-0 NE-10, 1-8-2 ECAC NE) will be in action again on Wednesday as it hosts Becker College at 7 p.m. Assumption College (4-14-0, 0-4-0 NE-10, 1-7-0 ECAC NE) will travel to Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
