Southern New Hampshire Tops Franklin Pierce, 9-4

DelSavio notches first career hat trick to lead Ravens in final regular season game

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Feb. 18, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce Ice Hockey team suffered a tough 9-4 loss to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 action this evening at the Waterville Ice Arena. Franklin Pierce junior Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) led all scorers with three points, as he notched his first career-hat trick to lead the Ravens.

Southern New Hampshire started the scoring early netting two goals on their first three shots. Senior Kyle Bousquet (E. Longmeadow, Mass./E. Longmeadow scored his sixth goal of the season just 2:18 into the game and senior Ryan Deery (Richland, Wash./Tri-City Titans) made it 2-0 just 47 seconds later.

Franklin Pierce battled back, scoring three power-play goals in a 1:20 span to regain the lead. DelSavio tallied his first two goals of the game, while freshman Jeff Kasper (South Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial) added his seventh goal of the year to take the lead. The Penmen fired back six minutes later, recording more goals late in the period to take a 4-3 advantage.

In the second period, Southern New Hampshire found the net three more times as sophomore Matt Lemay (Biddeford, ME/Portland Jr. Pirates) notched the first Penmen goal just 2:09 into the period, and senior Brent Bousquet (E. Longmeadow, Mass./E. Longmeadow) added to more goals to increase the Penmen lead.

DelSavio netted his third goal of the game mid way through the second period to complete his hat-trick off assists from classmate Mike Anderson (Keene, N.H./Laconia Leafs) and sophomore Ben Reynolds (Wallingford, Pa./Green Mountain Glades).

Southern New Hampshire would add two more goals during the third frame to secure the victory. The Penmen out shot Franklin Pierce 41-29, and Penmen senior goaltender Martin Stehl  (Gold Bar, Wash./Eugene Thunder) saved 25 shots in net. Senior goalie Robert Arduini (Fulton, N.Y./Gray Bodley) recorded 16 saves for the Ravens before leaving the game with an injury. Junior Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) took over in net and finished with 16 saves as well.

Franklin Pierce ended its regular season with an overall record of 1-18-4, 0-12-3 in the ECAC NE and 1-4-0 in the NE-10. The Ravens now await the pairings for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
