Saint Anselm Rolls Past Franklin Pierce, 7-1

Millman stops 48 shots in Ravens' loss

WINCHENDON, Mass. (Jan. 2, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce Ice Hockey team suffered a tough 7-1 loss to Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight at the Robinson-Broadhurst Arena. Sophomore Pat Forshner (Natick, Mass./Avon Old Farms) and junior Josh Hechter (Winnipeg, Man./Pr. George Spruce Kings) led the Hawks, totaling a three points apiece. Forshner notched two goals and one assists while Hechter contributed with three assists.  

The Hawks scored the first seven goals of the match-up to secure the victory. Junior Brian Dobler (Jericho, N.Y./N.Y. Apple Core) opened the scoring just 5:10 into the contest as he connected for a goal off feeds from Hechter and junior Dan Ohlson (York, Maine/N.H. Jr. Monarchs) to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Hawks forward Colin Fitzpatrick (Westwood, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) increased the Saint Anselm lead as he notched the first goal of the match. Fitzpatrick took assists from junior Brett Smith (Hudson, Mass./Canterbury Prep) and Dobler to beat Franklin Pierce goaltender Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) for the Hawks second goal of the match.

In the third period, Saint Anselm exploded for four goals to ensure the win. Forshner notched his first of two goals just 3:26 into the period off feeds from Hechter and Smith. Fitzpatrick would also add his second goal of the match-up to give the Hawks extra insurance.

Franklin Pierce senior Shawn Dooley (Rockland, Mass./Archbishop Williams) notched his first goal of the season for the Ravens at the end of the third period to erase the shutout.

 Saint Anselm tallied 65 shots on net, while Franklin Pierce recorded 16 shots. Junior goaltender Jason Rafuse (Nepean, Ontario/North Country C.C.) stopped 11 shots in net for the Hawks, while Millman made 48 saves for the Ravens. Sophomore transfer Steve Moore (Londonderry, N.H./American International) made ten saves in net in his 12 minutes of play.

Franklin Pierce (1-8-2, 0-4-1 ECAC NE, and 1-3-0 NE-10) will be in action on Thursday as it travels to Fitchburg State College for a match starting at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm College (7-1-1, 5-0-1 ECAC, 2-0-0 NE-10) will be in action again on Friday as it travels to Bowdoin College for a match starting at 7 p.m.
