Franklin Pierce and Western New England Battle to Tie, 2-2

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 10, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team battled to a 2-2 tie with Western New England College in ECAC Northeast competition at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, Mass. tonight.

The Ravens jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage, when sophomore Brad Leighton (Cumberland, Maine/East Coast Rangers) capitalized on feeds from classmates Mike Anderson (Keene, N.H./Laconia Leafs) and C.J. Demmons (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kimball Union) at the 12:31 mark of the first period.

Sophomore Brett Bilodeau (Skowhegan, Maine/Hebron Academy) extended the Franklin Pierce lead to two goals in the 14th minute of the second period on assists by senior Chris Pryputniewicz (Berlin, Conn./Fitchburg State) and junior Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J./Laconia Leafs).

Western New England used a Marcin Dziubek (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) power-play goal to slice the Ravens lead to one goal less than four minutes later, and junior Pat Henderson (Marlton, N.J./Valley Forge Minutemen) knotted the score at two at the 4:30 mark of the third period.

Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of regulation and through the overtime period, and the contest ended in a 2-2 deadlock. The teams each managed 31 shots on goal.
