UMass Dartmouth Tops Franklin Pierce, 4-1
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (February 5, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey suffered a 4-1 loss to UMass Dartmouth in ECAC Northeast competition at the Hetland Arena in New Bedford, Mass. tonight.
The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 advantage and never looked back. Junior Eric Frank (Waltham, Mass./Traverse City Enforcers) got things going at the 18:26 mark of the first period, when he took a feed from senior Shane Relihan (New Bedford, Mass./Mercyhurst College) to give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead. UMass Dartmouth extended their edge 5:59 into the second period on a Kyle McCullough (Danvers, Mass. Boston JR Blackhawks) marker.
Franklin Pierce cut the lead to one, when junior Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J./Laconia Leafs) took feeds from Duke Kelley (Bedford, N.H./Tupelo T-Rex) and Shawn Dooley (Rockland, Mass./Archbishop Williams) 4:46 into the third period. Sophomore Peter Lindner (Parlin, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied less than five minutes later and junior Ian Seaver (Ludlow, Mass./Springfield Catheral) added a late goal to give the Corsairs a 4-1 victory.
UMass Dartmouth out-shot the Ravens 42-21. Senior goaltender Kevin McGowen (Hingham, Mass./Trinity-Pauling) saved 20 shots en route to the victory for the hosts, while junior Robert Arduini (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) stopped 38 shots in a losing effort for the visitors.
Franklin Pierce (5-11-1, 4-8-1 ECAC-NE) will take the ice again on Thursday, when they play their second of three straight road contests versus ECAC Northeast Conference foe Western New England College at 7 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (15-4-0, 12-2-0 ECAC-NE) plays again on Wednesday versus ECAC Northeast conference opponent Wentworth at 8 p.m.
