Salve Regina Ices Franklin Pierce, 3-1

Binda's three points lead Seahawks past Ravens

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (Januray 16, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team fell 3-1 tonight in ECAC Northeast competition versus Salve Regina University in Portsmouth, N.H. Senior Geno Binda (South Boston, Mass./ Avon Old Farms) figured in on all three goals for the Seahawks, scoring one and assisting on the others.

The game was scoreless until the 6:22 mark of the second period, when junior Timothy O'Neill (Hamilton N.Y./ Bridgton Academy) took advantage of a power-play opportunity to beat Ravens goaltender Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union). Binda gave the hosts a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute of the second frame, as he netted a short-handed goal.

Franklin Pierce cut the lead in half on a power-play goal by senior Matt DePuydt (Houghton, Mich./SUNY Canton) just 1:18 into the third period, but failed to get any closer, as senior Robert Langlais (Hudson, N.H./ Bishop Guertin) took feeds from Binda and classmate Adam Asselin (Auburn, Maine/Hebron Academy) to ice the game for Salve Regina less than seven minutes later.

The Seahawks out-shot the Ravens 34-16. Senior goaltender Matt Porter (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) saved 15 shots en route to the victory, while Millman took the loss despite saving 31 shots.

Franklin Pierce (4-8-0, 1-3-0 NE-10, 3-5-0 ECAC NE) will conclude a three-game road trip on Wednesday, when they travel to Wentworth for a non-conference clash beginning at 7:00 p.m. Salve Regina (5-8-1, 2-2-1 ECAC NE) will visit Connecticut College on Tuesday for a non-conference game starting at 7:00 p.m.
