Southern New Hampshire Skates Past Franklin Pierce, 9-3

Hammermeister, Bousquet notch three points apiece

HOOKSETT, N.H. (Feb. 19, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team fell 9-3 to Southern New Hampshire University tonight in non-conference competition at The Ice Den in Hooksett, N.H.

Freshman Brandon Hammermeister (Calgary, Alberta/Fernie Ghostriders) and junior Brent Bousquet (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) totaled three points apiece, as 13 Penmen recorded points in the lopsided victory. Hammermeister tallied two goals and an assist, while Bousquet added a goal and a pair of helpers. Seniors Pat Doherty (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) and Chris Russo (Levittown, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) along with sophomore Dominic Cavallero (Revere, Mass./Boston Jr. Blackhawks) each contributed a goal and an assist for the hosts.

Hammermeister opened the scoring on a power-play goal 4:55 into the contest. Franklin Pierce evened the score at one at the 15:33 mark of the first period, when Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J/Laconia Leafs) capitalized on assists from sophomore Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) and senior Chris Pryputniewicz (Berlin, Conn./Fitchburg State). Freshman Andrew Goduco (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) netted a short-handed goal late in the first frame to give Southern New Hampshire the 2-1 edge heading into the first intermission.

The Ravens knotted the game at two 1:18 into the second period on junior Shawn Dooley's (Rockland, Mass./Archbishop Williams) power-play marker, but the Penmen exploded for six consecutive goals in a span of 21:07 to ice the contest.

Hammermeister started the rally with a short-handed goal at the 7:48 mark of the second stanza and Russo capped it off with a goal at the 8:55 mark of the third period.

The Ravens ended the rally when freshman Ben Reynolds (Wallingford, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) took feeds from classmate Peter Wilson (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and junior Matt Berthiaume (Rochdale, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury) to register a power-play goal with under ten minutes remaining in the game. Cavallero added a late goal to give the Penmen a 9-3 victory.

The hosts out-shot Franklin Pierce 38-17. Southern New Hampshire junior goaltender Martin Stehl (Goldbar, Wash./Eugene Thunder) saved 14 shots en route to earning the victory, while Ravens junior netminder Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) took the loss despite stopping 29 shots.

Franklin Pierce (5-14-2, 1-3-0 NE-10, 4-9-1 ECAC NE) will wrap-up their regular season slate on Wednesday, as they host Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 clash beginning at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (14-6-3, 3-2-0 NE-10, 9-2-3 ECAC NE) takes the ice again on Thursday, when the host Stonehill College at 7:30 p.m. to complete their regular season schedule.
