Stonehill Blanks Franklin Pierce, 7-0
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (February 12, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team was shutout, 7-0 by Stonehill College in ECAC Northeast competition at the Bridgewater Ice Arena in Bridgewater, Mass. tonight.
Junior Brian Lewis (Cohasset, Mass./Xaverian) netted four goals to lead the Chieftains, while freshman Brain Davis (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) added three points on a goal and two assists. Freshman Anthony Zanetti (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) added two assists for the hosts. Sophomore Josh Green (Mendon, Mass./Gunnery Prep) stopped all 19 shots on goal for his first career shutout.
Lewis netted the first two goals of the game. He took a feed from Zanetti at the 11:15 mark of the first period to give Stonehill an early 1-0 advantage and registered his second marker in the tenth minute of the second frame.
Senior Bryan Last (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) gave the Chieftains a three goal cushion less than a minute later, and junior Andrew Joy (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) netted a power-play goal to extend the lead to four goals.
Lewis racked up his second two goals in a 16 second span in the third minute of the third period and freshman Matt Curran (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) capped off the rout with a goal at the 12:47 mark of the final frame.
The Ravens were out-shot 51-19. Junior netminder Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) saved 40 shots before giving way to senior Brian Murphy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth), who stopped 4 shots.
Franklin Pierce (5-12-2, 4-8-1 ECAC NE) returns home for an ECAC Northeast Conference game versus Plymouth State on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Stonehill (6-12-0, 2-12-0 ECAC-NE) will also be in action on Wednesday, when they host Conference foe Salve Regina at 7:15 p.m.
