Southern New Hampshire Battles Past Franklin Pierce, 4-0

Tinti stops 57 shots for Franklin Pierce, a new program record

WINCHENDON, MASS. (Feb. 21, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss to Southern New Hampshire this evening at Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

The Penmen took an early 1-0 lead just 10 seconds into the first period as senior Dan Brown (Tyngsboro, Mass./Bishop Guertin (N.H.)) knocked in a goal from Chris Russo (Levittown, N.Y./Trinity Pauling) and Chris White (Naperville, Ill./Cleveland Lumberjacks).

Franklin Pierce managed to keep it a one-goal game until 6:06 in the third period as senior Brian DaRos (Stafford Springs, Conn./Stafford) scored for Southern New Hampshire on a pass from Dan Hickman (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) 

The Penmen then sealed the victory with two more third period goals from David Yazinka (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) and Pat Doherty (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield), the tallies coming just 29 seconds apart at 17:17 and 17:46, respectively.

Franklin Pierce senior goaltender Andy Tinti  (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY-Canton) made a program-record 57 saves, surpassing his previous mark of 56 set in 2003 against Saint Anselm. Sophomore Tim Fewster (Kitchener, Ontario/St. Catherines Falcons) stopped 34 shots for the Penmen.

Franklin Pierce (5-17, 0-4 NE-10, 2-14 ECAC NE) closes out the regular season at home on Wednesday against St. Michael's at 7:00 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (10-12, 2-3 NE-10, 7-7 ECAC NE) hosts Castleton State on Wednesday.
