St. Michael’s Stuns Franklin Pierce, 14-2

WINCHENDON, MASS. (Feb. 25, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team fell 14-2 to Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight at Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

Mike Duffy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Central Distric Selects) led all goal scorers with a hat trick for the Purple Knights, whileAlex Watts (Cheshire, Conn./Berkshire School) chipped in with five points on two goals and three assists.Justin Quenneville (Montreal, Quebec/Stanstead College) andChris Zimmermann (Malone, N.Y./Nepean Raiders) contributed four points each, Quenneville on a goal and three assists and Zimmermann on two goals and two assists.

Saint Michael's jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first before juniorJason Pierce (Maynard, Mass./Nashoba Regional) managed to put Franklin Pierce on the board with just 10 seconds left in the stanza on a pass fromEd Farinato (Medford, Mass./Bay State Breakers) andMatt Berthiaume (Rochdale, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury).

The Purple Knights then went on to score seven second period goals and three in the third to seal the victory.

Franklin Pierce's second goal of the game came at 9:12 in the second asShawn Dooley (Rockland, Mass./Archbishop Williams) notched his fifth of the season fromBrian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River).

        SophomoreDennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Bridgton Academy) made 25 saves before classmateRobert Arduini (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) relieved him in the second and made eight saves over the remaining 33:38.Derek Jackson (Clinton, N.Y./Gunnery School) started for St. Michael's and made 14 saves in the first period.Erik Smith (Warwick, R.I./Hill School) played the second and stopped nine shots andAndy Joy (Oak Park, Ill./Green Bay (Wisc.) Gamblers) played the third and made 12 saves.

Franklin Pierce (5-18, 0-5 NE-10, 2-14 ECAC NE) travels to Stonehill for Northeast-10 tournament first round action at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Saint Michael's (9-16, 4-1 NE-10, 4-14 ECAC East) will host the winner of that contest Wednesday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Semifinal game.
