Franklin Pierce Edges Plymouth State in Overtime, 3-2

Farinato nets game winner 47 seconds into the extra period to send the Ravens to their second straight victory

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. (FEB. 16, 2004) - Senior Ed Farinato (Medford, Mass./Bay State Breakers) helped the Franklin Pierce ice hockey team to its second straight victory with his goal 47 seconds into overtime to lift the Ravens past Plymouth State, 3-2.

Freshman defenseman Mike Anderson (Keene, N.H./Laconia Leafs) led the Ravens with two goals on the evening and sophomore Rob Pendola (Everett, Mass./Mass Mariners) added two points on two assists. Junior Matt DePuydt (Houghton, Mich./SUNY-Canton) and freshman Jeff Beattie (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) both posted helpers as well.

Anderson put the Ravens out in front in the first, 1-0, as he sent home a pass from Pendola and DePuydt at 9:26 during a four-on-four situation. He then gave the Ravens a two goal lead 4:27 into the second. The Panthers managed to cut the deficit in half as Dennis Kane (Westford, Mass.) managed to knock in a goal at 17:04 in the stanza.

Plymouth state then went on to even the score at two apiece at 9:35 in the third on a goal from Paul Feeney (Lowell, Mass.) to send the game into overtime.

However, the extra frame lasted just 47 seconds as Farinato completed a pass from Pendola to give the Ravens the victory.

Franklin Pierce goaltender Andy Tinti  (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY-Canton) made 42 saves and picked up the win, while freshman Trevor Cherry (Greenland, N.H.) stopped 21 shots for Plymouth State.

Franklin Pierce (5-16, 0-4 NE-10, 2-14 ECAC NE) next hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Plymouth State (7-14, 3-11 ECAC NE) will play at home on Wednesday against Tufts at 6:00 p.m.
