Lebanon Valley Sinks Franklin Pierce, 8-1

HERSHEY, Pa. (Jan. 18, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team dropped an 8-1 decision to Lebanon Valley College in ECAC Northeast action this afternoon at the Hersheypark Arena.

SophomoreCameron Vandeveer (Perry, Ohio/Jr. Barons) and freshmanAndreas Wochtl (Stockholm, Sweden/Philadelphia Little Flyers) led the scoring for the Flying Dutchmen with three points apiece, Vandeveer on two goals and an assist, Wochtl on a goal and two assists. SophomoreChris Finnerty (Lake George, N.Y./Capital District Selects), freshmanAndrew Rummel (Reading, Pa./Central Penn) and seniorAnthony Pace (Cortland, N.Y./Canterbury) each contributed one goal and one assist.

JuniorJason Pierce (Maynard, Mass./Nashoba Regional) was the lone scorer for the Ravens, while classmateMatt DePuydt (Houghton, Mich./SUNY Canton) and seniorSam Burr (Kingston, N.Y./Newburgh Polar Bears) each tallied assists.

Lebanon Valley struck first at 7:22 in the opening period with Wochtl’s second of the season. Vandeveer broadened the lead to 2-0 at 12:55 and Finnerty added a third goal with 2:39 remaining in the first. Vandeveer gave the Flying Dutchmen a 4-0 advantage after one with his second of the game with just two seconds remaining in the first.

The Ravens’ lone goal came 1:13 into the second as Pierce tallied his fourth of the season. Lebanon Valley, however, posted three in the period, with goals from Rummel, freshmanAlex Beatrice (Randolph, N.Y./NY Applecore) and sophomoreBrendon Herr (New Holland, Pa./Wyoming Seminary). Pace posted the eighth and final goal for the Flying Dutchmen in the third.

Franklin Pierce senior goaltenderAndy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY Canton) started and took the loss. Tinti played 23:14, allowed five goals and stopped 13 shots. SophomoreDennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) relieved him and played 16:46, allowed two goals and made 16 saves. ClassmateRobert Arduini (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) played the third period in net for the Ravens, with 18 stops and one goal allowed.

SophomoreJoe Burley (Waddington, N.Y./Brockville Jr. Braves) made 15 saves and picked up the win for Lebanon Valley.

Franklin Pierce (2-10, 1-8 ECAC Northeast, 0-4 NE-10) hosts an ECAC Northeast matchup against Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Lebanon Valley (8-6, 6-2 ECAC Northeast) next faces Elmira College.
