Franklin Pierce Crushes Castleton State, 9-1

Dooley nets two as the Ravens score a record nine goals in a game

WINCHENDON, MASS. (FEB. 11, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce ice hockey team scored a program record nine goals as they crushed Castleton State 9-1 tonight at Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

Sophomore Shawn Dooley (Rockland, Mass./Archbishop Williams) netted two goals and tallied an assist to lead the Ravens with three points. Classmates Rob Pendola (Everett, Mass./Mass Mariners), Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J./Laconia Leafs), senior Ed Farinato (Medford, Mass./Bay State Breakers) and freshman Mike Anderson (Keene, N.H./Laconia Leafs) each chipped in with a goal and an assist apiece. Junior Matt DePuydt (Houghton, Mich./SUNY-Canton) senior Sam Burr (Kingston, N.Y./Newburgh Polar Bears) and freshman David St. Lawrence (Holyoke, Mass./Springfield Pics) all contributed goals, while sophomore Matt Berthiaume (Rochdale, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury) and freshman Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) each posted two helpers. Freshman C.J. Demmons (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kimball Union) and junior Chris Pryputniewicz (Berlin, Conn./Fitchburg State) both had assists in the victory.

DePuydt opened up the scoring at 6:02 in the first and Franklin Pierce quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one.

The Ravens added two more goals in the second before Henry Thatcher (Fletcher, Vt./St. Albans Maple Leafs) scored the lone goal for the Spartans at 11:44 from Ryan Estey (Gouverneur, N.Y./Canton Midgets). St. Lawrence quickly took the goal back for the Ravens at 12:26 in the stanza.

Dooley notched his two goals in the third period, at 3:16 and 15:16 respectively, to round out the scoring.

Franklin Pierce netminder Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) stopped 42 shots in net to earn the victory, while Castleton State goaltenders Billy Thompson III (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) and Branden Gallagher (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hoosic Prep) combined for 41 saves.

Franklin Pierce (4-16, 0-4 NE-10, 1-14 ECAC NE) next travels to Plymouth State on Monday for an ECAC Northeast matchup at 6 p.m.
