Franklin Pierce Shoots Past Bryant in Exhibition, 5-1

WINCHENDON, MASS. (Feb. 12, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team netted five unanswered goals in the second and third periods en route to a 5-1 exhibition win over former NECHA rival, Bryant College this evening at the Robinson-Broadhurst Community Rink this evening.

Sophomore Mark Gibbons (Quincy, Mass./Archbishop Williams) led the Ravens with a goal and a pair of assists, while freshman Matt Clemente (Middletown, N.J./Laconia Leafs) tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Classmate Robert Pendola (Everett, Mass./Mass. Mariners) dished a pair of assists for the Ravens.

Bryant's lone goal was scored by sophomore Tim Duggan in the opening period. The Bulldogs netted the only goal of the first stanza as Duggan tipped in a shot from freshman Michael Benoit at the 7:52 mark.

The Ravens came out shooting in the second period, as sophomore Jason Pierce (Maynard, Mass./Nashoba Regional) beat Bryant goaltender, Dan Dabrowski on the right side to even the score at the 6:25 mark. Senior Kevin Mull (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) helped extend the Franklin Pierce lead by two as he redirected a shot from Pendola at the 15:15 mark.

The Ravens finished off Bryant with three unanswered goals from junior tri-captainMike Sabini (New Paltz, N.Y./Newburgh Polar Bears), Gibbons and Clemente in a span of nine minutes in the third period to put the game out of the Bulldogs reach and make the final, Franklin Pierce 5, Bryant 1.

Junior Andy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY Canton) made ten saves in 60 minutes of work for his first win of the season, while Dabrowski made 36 saves despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (0-19-1, 0-14-1) next hosts Stonehill College in an ECAC Northeast Conference matchup in its final regular season home game on Wednesday, February 19, at 7 p.m. at the Robinson Broadhurst Community Rink in Winchendon, Mass.
