Wentworth Blanks Franklin Pierce, 10-0

BOSTON, MASS. (Jan. 22, 2003) - Junior forward Alex Marinkovich (Kelowna, British Columbia) recorded a hat trick to lead Wentworth Institute of Technology past Franklin Pierce, 10-0, in ECAC Northeast Conference action this evening.

Freshman Mike Prsa recorded two goals and dished one assist in the win.

Franklin Pierce, who did not register a goal in the match-up, struggled offensively as the team was outshot 57-16 and was 0/5 on the power play.

The Leopards opened up the scoring with Prsa's first goal of the evening just 40 seconds into regulation. The team went on to net three more goals in a span of six minutes to take a 4-0 lead heading into the break.

The Leopards continued to fire away, netting two markers three minutes into the middle period to put the game out of reach.

Franklin Pierce junior Andy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY-Canton) registered 22 saves in 30 minutes of work, while freshman Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union) totaled 25 saves in 30 minutes of work. Freshman goaltender Bryce McFadden made 16 saves for his first collegiate shutout.

Franklin Pierce (0-14-1, 0-9-1 ECAC NE) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Nichols College in an ECAC Northeast Conference game at 7:15 p.m. at the Robinson-Broadhurst Community Rink in Winchendon, Mass. Wentworth (11-2-2, 6-0-1 ECAC NE) next hosts Curry College in a Conference match-up on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
